gas mileage with 4:10
i was wondering if there is a significant change with gas mileage going to 4:10 gears vs stock M6 02 z28? if so how much will it cut it down by? im considering changing gears but dont want it to kill me on gas cause i drive it regularly.

My first tankfull showed 3-4 mpg difference. However, my driving my not have been typical(trying out new gears) and I had colder nitrous plugs installed. I do about 28 miles/day ranging from 55-75mph. Then about 12 miles of town driving.
I am about at half a tank, I will know more in a few days.
If you do alot of city driving you may not notice it. However, at highway speeds it is like you are driving in 5th.

I wondered about that also before I chose a gear. Before and after the swap I drove on an 2 hour round trip same weather conditions. 3.42's= 29.2mpg, 4.10's= 29.8. Both at same speed tops out
Later on this summer I took it to a cruisin which was an hour away and got 30.2 withthe tops out, and got on it a few times. 6th gear becomes useful

It certainly does make 6th gear more useful with the gear change. The effects that the gear change has on your gas mileage is going to depend on how fast you normally drive. If you run 75 to 85 much of the time you may want to consider 3.73 gears. Bob

With a 4.10 12 bolt and cam i was averaging 20mpg between city and highway, but I had a problem with not keeping me foot out of it.
Now my th350 with 3.73 12 bolt and h/c is a totally different story. best i've got yet was 11 mpg! haha

i always pulled 6500 rpm in 4th in my m6 on a 26" tire at 125 mph but I never knew how correct my tach was because i should have had a few more mph left by the calculations. I was going to go to a 28" tire like i have with my trans am now with the th350.

I get 20 in town and 26 on the highway. I love the way the 4:10's and the M6 work together. I think it should be an option from the factory.
