Default Rear end clunking sound???

I have this clunking sound whenever I hit a bump or uneven surface in the road. Its on the driver's side. But, when I jack the car up, I can't find anything loose or whatever.Any ideas??

It could be your rear hatch. They all do it on occasion. It could even be your bumb stop on the rear axle. If your not finding anything loose or worn out, or having problems with the rear end, thats all i can think of.

Its not the hatch, I can open the door when drving slowly and hear a loud rattle when I hit a bump. Sounds like a really loose dust shield or something...it's driving me nuts

I had the same problem a while back. Mine only happened intermittently though, not every time. It would also happen sometimes when I would do something as simple as close the door. Had me stumped for the longest time. All I know is that when I adjusted the coil springs to fix what I thought to be an unrelated problem, the clunking went away. So you might wanna try that.

I may give that a try..I was thinking that it might also be the heat shield under the gas tank. Its not doing it every time, just once in a while..
