28 or 31 spline axles?

Default 28 or 31 spline axles?

I am looking to buy a moser 9" and was wondering what axles i should go with? 28 or 31? whats the difference/advantages of them?

More splines = more contact area = stronger axle. Go with 31 spline, they're probably the most common with the 9".

I have 35 splined axles in my 9" but you are limited to either running a Spool or a Detroit Locker.

I elected for the Locker

As the splie count increases, the phyisical diameter of the axle increases. The more splines the thicker and stronger the axle becomes. It also weighs a little more. You can gun drill to reduce the weight and still get the extra strength.

I would go 31 spline. It will be a stronger part and handle more HP. Above 31 spline and the diff choices start to get limited.
