question about 10 bolt rear
My axel housing gasket was leaking on my 2000 z28, so i replaced it and the guy at autozone recomended Lucas 80w 90 rear end oil. On the back of the bottle it stated that it was perfect for limited slip differentials and that no additive was needed. But now my rear is acting funny. when i get back tires spinning it seems as if my clutch is slipping but it isnt. When i did a burnout I noticed by the marks that halfway through the drivers side tire stopped spinng then started again. Is my rear end going bad or Is this occuring because i didnt use the limited slip additive. I have <100 miles on the car since the change. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

When opened up the diff to change the gasket there was about a small amount of fine metal on the magnet. the biggest metal was about the size of eraser shavings. the rear has deveoped a whine. Which is only noticeable on the highway only due to my heads/cam/mac mids/randomtech catback. Oh and the car has the stock ten bolt with 3.42 gears w 100,000 miles on them.

My diff grenaded at 112,000 miles although I beat the **** out of it. Try the diff additive with the lucas like SS SLP2 said. Worse comes to worse and the gears look fine, you could just get a new diff for a decent price. Although I would just suffer through it and buy a stronger rear. Sorry, that seems to be the most common answer but it's true.
