Whoops...

Went to the track last night to see how the car would do. It doesn't make super ridiculous numbers, but 653RWHP and 634RWTQ through a built A4 and a triple disc PI converter. The logical weak link was the aluminum DS but it didn't even cross my mind for it to fail being in an auto car and the drivetrain preloaded decently.

I had the car scaled yesterday before we went after a week of getting the suspension stuff on, QA1's, BMR Xtreme Duty Sway bar, fitting for the 28's etc. Anyway, first pass I stalled the car to about 2200, flashed to about 3800, the most violent launch it has ever done, then BAM! This is what I ended up with:

I was pretty bummed, but its kinda funny, lol.

i got a pst for my 9" and T56 combo, no problems yet.

myfast70 09-28-2008 09:16 PM

Do any other damage? Looks like you had a loop on the car which probably helped a lot.

JimsWS6 09-28-2008 09:28 PM

ya thats a bummer....but damn funny lol. Thats some serious power your making when you can twist a ds like that. On an automatic too!

'Trust' 09-28-2008 09:42 PM

The automatic car thing is what hurts my brain, but it was a very strong launch, fully unloaded the suspension of the car before it broke. I'm assuming it was trying to lift the car and the DS just could hold the power/weight.

No other damage, and yea it has a loop, poll vaulting my car would suck, lol.

"o Snap!"

kc533 09-29-2008 11:29 AM

Wow. That'll make a good conversation piece up on your wall, lol.

keliente 09-29-2008 11:38 AM

Lucky you had a loop. Now get you a chromeoly shaft for $295 from midwest and call it a day. :)

BIG_MIKE2005 09-29-2008 11:59 AM

Damn man, time for chromemoly or steel. I just upgraded to steel when I bent my stocker.

x2 on the loop, waaay better safe than sorry!

I threw a steel one in there for now, I haven't heard of those twisting much. I'm really just wanting to test how the rear end holds, if it holds I'm going to order a chromoly DS, if it doesn't, time for a 12bolt and a new DS anyway. We'll find out Friday.

Yessir

qwikz28 09-29-2008 04:02 PM

you sir have balls for taking a car that powerful to the track with a 10 bolt  i sometimes worry for my 12 bolt

AznMuscle 09-29-2008 04:06 PM

A DS ripping apart before the 10 bolt on a 600+ hp car.....Holy shit. I sometimes feel my 10 bolt on my near stock car is about to grenade...

HSESWS6 09-29-2008 04:51 PM

Hey I have one of those too... 350/348 RWHP/TRQ stock 10 bolt with 3.42's but an M6.

Personally, I would throw another aluminum one in there before a steel one... You twist an aluminum one apart, but you BEND a steel one...

Now I have a Denny's nitrous ready driveshaft and it seems to be a VERY STOUT piece

Here is my first outing with a 12 bolt and a stock steel DS out of an LT1 car...

Auto's tend to be alot more forgiving to 10 bolts than their M6 counter parts, mostly because everything is already loaded so there is no real 'shock', but it seems the aluminum DS didn't care for any of that!

Never heard of that... dang. Its really just to test, if the car holds together I'm going to get a chromoly DS, the steel one isn't permanent.

Haha, I'm just running out of money!! I'm at the point that if it scatters the rear end I'll get a 12 bolt since I'll have to. But I've spent 5k on this car in 3 months and thats alot for a college kid, I'm running out of funds, :(.

Raptor_WS6 09-30-2008 12:07 AM
