What Gear Kit for Detroit Truetrac So i am wanting to beef my rear end up without dropping the money on a 9". my build plan is to get the LPW rear cover and the JRE billet caps. I am also planning on the detroit truetrac and wanting to get either 3.70 or 3.73 gears. I dont plan on installing the actual truetrack or gears due to the chance to mess it up versus the fact its only a couple hundred at a shop. but i will be taking the pumpkin out and taking it to a shop. now my main 2 questions are: 1-what is the best gear installment kit that works with the truetrack and doesnt come with a bunch of extra stuff i dont need and fits the right gears? 2-what gear company is recommended for either ratio? thanks guys. im new to the forum and just looking for some knowledge |
I'd like to know this too. I won't be changing gears but the truetrac and lpw cover interest me. Thought I'd do axles too. I would think that all 3 components would help with durability. Anyone done this? |

what about the billet caps with the LPW rear cover? added insurance? or not needed? |
If you really wanna spend the money, sure. But all the research I did, everyone said to pass on it, so I did. You're not going to deflect a billet cap. |
my jre rear upgrade had the billet caps and posi mod. both worked out real well. jannetty suggested I run the 3.73. I was extremely happy with the set-up. |

Screw the LPW cover and get some billet end caps. Fix the problem, dont band aid it. Anybody looked at Auburn Gear's product? http://aftermarket.auburngear.com/va...e=12&model=831 |
I only ran it for about 800 miles before I had a catastrophic failure due to incompetent installation, but I loved it. I never really got a chance to really romp on it, but the few rolling onramps I did, the car just took off and left. I dont have money for another rebuild, but I will be putting it back in some day. |
so ordered the truetrac with GM 3.91 gears with the lingenfelter gear installation kit, might be too much but decided would rather make an order once instead of missing a few items. also got the JRE billet caps and decided to get the LPW rear cover just for added insurance. and got a set of BMR bushings for the diff. cant wait for it all to come in. when i make the build ill be sure to post it all. |
