can someone please get in the 10s with a stock motor....

not like bone stock but at least H/C/I/E...no power adder.cause im seriously sick of mustang finatics goin crazy bout the new 5.0 being in the 10s now supposedly NA......

kmracer 08-24-2010 02:31 AM

its not supposedly.

but the camaro's been out for almost 2 years now, why hasnt anyone done it yet?

kmracer 08-24-2010 02:35 AM

all i see is a buncha dyno queen camaros running 11's and 12's with 500+whp.

Dark SS 08-24-2010 11:16 AM

It's seems like that Camaro has become a dyno queen. OrangeChevyII is about the only person I have seen that pushed the platform with minimal mods and it responded well. There isn't even a documented time for a stock car on a DR. nhrastocker, who holds the stock record, was going to do it but I haven't heard. Shops really pushed the 5.0 with minimal mods but it seems like the Camaro has been modded much more heavily. I think with drastic weight reduction and a suspension the Camaro might break 10's in -DA with a stock motor. More owners need to push the car. I think that will come with time as more enthusiasts get the car.

ThisBlood147 08-24-2010 05:29 PM

Probably has more to do with the types of people who were quick to go out and get this car during its first year on the lots. Alot more Camaro "fans" than Camaro gearhead/enthusiasts. Give it time.

OrangeChevyII 08-25-2010 09:49 AM

Not gonna happen with out a power adder, cars are to heavy and the auto cars dont respond well to mods in stock trim. Mycar went 11.80's N/A on the stock longblock and 10.90's with a dry shot.

To heavy, no gear and did I mention to heavy?

I went 10.50's with a built Ls7 N/A, they just weigh to much. As bad as I hate to say it the Mustang wins the DRAG wars off the show room floor.

The people that bought the fith gen Camaro really hurt the community of hot rods and drag strips. All they care about is "dyno" numbers, slowest group of cars GM has released since the 82-93 series....:bang: and I'm talking about the 500 rwhp blown cars that run high 12's.:barf:

Here's the thing:

The camaro has become more of a tuner car now. It's almost (please understand I'm not being rude but unfortunately, most on here will just react before reading between the lines)

.. like the SN95 mustangs and all of the tuner/"ricer" BS that came out of that car. To many pretty pieces slowing the car down. However, it's not just the camaro, the mustang is also suffering from this SEMA world we live in right now. The reason is because NO ONE has posted a thread about how serious they're about racing a 5th gen.

They're heavy and some don't like the cost, especially in our economy. It's cheaper to go with a 4th gen and build the motor while a 5th gen you have to spend the money you would have for a the drivetrain on the car and THEN spend more on the build.

The 5.0 is a decent car and WEIGHS (IMPORTANT) much less than the 5th gen. However, don't let those guys get to you or anyone because in order to get into the low 10's, 9's, they needed to GUT those stangs out. Look at the evo performance 5.0.. no mirrors, exhaust, etc.

The LS3, all the way to about 6400-6600rpms, whoops up on the 5.0. The engineers had to use rpm as a solution to make the power, hence the 7k rpm limit. (8k for the boss 302) Weight is critical but for the exception of a few, most folks buy these 5th gens. to look pretty and drive around a bumblebee. (My brother and father included!!! Both have official Trans. 2SS's

It can be done without a poweradder but it's gonna take a solid motor and well balanced chassis to get it done. The mph will be down but I can see it happening, it's just the market for the 5th gen is not there, well not yet.

If these offends anyone well that is unfortunate because the fact of the matter is, the 5th gen. is not a modern musclecar or at least in the eyes of most owners at this present moment. It's a tuner car and there is a big difference. Think imports.

RUQWIKR 08-25-2010 04:22 PM

Don't forget that its frontal area and drag coefficient are not exactly the best for making good numbers especially on the top end of the track. Look at the pics of the 5th vs. 4th-gen's side-by-side in the front! It's taking massive power to get the handful of cars in the 9's thus far.

kmracer 08-25-2010 05:09 PM

evo's testing their full weight auto car right now, they made a few changes from the last time they went 11.5 with bolt ons. i have no idea what the changes are?

OrangeChevyII 08-25-2010 06:15 PM

Im about as serious as you can get.

kmracer 08-25-2010 06:45 PM

theres a guy with a stripped one running NMCA, it was just built.

kmracer 08-25-2010 07:06 PM

Don Baskin's NMCA Pro Stock 2010 Camaro, google it.

the car weighs 2950lbs, if they can get it down to that weight with a 100lb roll cage, i dont think it would be hard for the average guy to get one down to 3600 and someone who's serious to get one down to 3200ish, without the 9 inch swap.

kmracer 08-25-2010 07:08 PM

cheyII whats yours weigh?

Dark SS 08-26-2010 09:33 AM

3600lbs. isn't hard at all when you can drop 75lbs. on an exhaust swap. If you run LT's w/o cats it may even be more. Wheels and brakes are big weight too. The mustang weighs roughly 200lbs. less so it's not really drastically lighter. The mustang was considered too heavy till the 5th gen came out.

I completely agree with the "tuner" comments. Just not enough people to push the car yet. There still hasn't been much documented 5.0 times from owners either.

OrangeChevyII 08-26-2010 12:11 PM

Car weighs 3800 with a driver @ 200 pounds. I'd like to get it lighter but were waiting on parts. I just added roughly another 100 pounds back to it with the iron block. It has a cage in it to:(

ss1129 08-26-2010 12:30 PM

As soon as I can afford some drag wheels / tires I will run it with exhaust intake and a 3600 stall, but we just blew all of our money plus some opening a restaurant. Then I will run it with a 150 shot. I honestly dont think its going to be that far off the mustang as its only about 200lbs more....running bigger brakes and wheels that a ton. Hopefully I can make it to Gateway before they close forever.

obZidian 08-26-2010 12:50 PM

That's 3600lbs. with a driver Orange. That's great actually. I think the more folks get off the "pretty camaro" wagon and more into a serious track car I think the 5.0 will not be as badass as many of the mustang guys WANT it to be.

The car is great and all but not that great. If you overlap the highest stock dyno graph of a 5.0 versus the highest stock LS3 dyno graph you'll see that the motor really isn't all that impressive, excepts that its about 1.2L's down. Without that 7k rpm limit, it would of been just another WTF mustang GT, built for girls.

jetaws6 08-26-2010 01:21 PM

The mustang has aggressive gearing for a stock car. Thats what makes up for the lack of motor. I think if someone gutted out a camaro, did the suspension, some bolt on's, drag lites with radials on the back and maybe some gears it could hit 10's with an aggressive tune

sure, the ls3 is a strong engine, but last time i checked the engine doesnt make the car, point in case? 2010 camaro VS 2011 mustang.

plain and simple, the 5.0 is a quite a contender. its clear as glass.

kmracer 08-26-2010 08:16 PM

again, what camaro is in the 9's with a stock motor? let alone the 10's.
