Default So if the Camaro gets canned...

How expensive do you think it will be to buy one of the cars that are on the road right now and keep it =P

just wondering I'd be pretty cool to have an almost one of a kind car.

its not going to be canned, people have already ordered them. Why do people start these threads? Lets say it happens..... we can't afford the PROTOTYPES and they will go to museums.

haha exactly. There's no way they can the car at this stage. How long it's in production is another story.

This thread is dumb. The Camaro is not canned, Scott has said so. Plus there is no way you could get your hands on a prototype if this were to happen.

So if you want a new one, just order one.

Buying a prototype will be next to impossible. Besides, production versions are coming. It's too late to turn back now.

What is up with all the "zomg camaro getting canned!!!11!" stuff. They've already dumped all the money into the development, they'd only lose all of it if they didn't produce them

Since when? Source? There was a rumor around here about it getting "pushed" but really it was always slated for 2011 model from the get go.

Well, nancy pelosi said today that the new car czar will dictate what the detroit companies build with the bailout funds. She specifically mentioned emissions and mileage requirements.
Don't doubt for a minute that GM can't scrap the camaro and use its factories to build politically correct cars. GM is getting 4 billion just for december. I'd say that plus more money in '09 (maybe 15 billion) greatly eclipses the money spent on the camaro.

Not saying it will happen. At this point anything is a possibility.

Right on Triggerjerk. The Camaro was never destined to be a ''green'' car!

^^^^You are probably right.
I can see it being a very short lived run however.
I mean, Ford was blasted by some congressmen for building a Mustang after the 2010 model started getting press.

I wouldn't be upset if the Camaro and/or G8 got canned..... the Corvette would be another story

Jeezus the sky is falling, Detroit will stop making performance cars next week, we will all be forced to drive econo shitboxes. The Government will not force any of the manufacturers to stop making a profitable car. If the Camaro sells well, which is has already been doing, it won't go anywhere. Chevy gets great mileage out of of the V6 and pretty good mileage out of the V8. It's not a terribly un-green car. Other than the Cobalt, it will be the only coupe in the line up across the board if Pontiac, Saturn and SAAB go down. We may see the end of the V8 for a few years, but the Camaro makes good business sense for right now and in the future. I could see a turbo I-4 become a base engine and a turbo V6 be the SS for a short time, but the car is bulit well enough, has an iconic name, appeals to a broad market and is a total new platform. I don't see it going anywhere. Once the G is paid off and the car czar goes away GM can build whatever they want again.

Dont forget, regardless of what they may think up there in D.C., these politicians work for us! Call your congressional delegation for your state and express your opposition to the nationalization of the automotive industry. No bailouts and no Car Czar!

Americans don't want battery operated circus clown cars!
