Default Does anyone else thing they screwed up by not offering a "base" V8?

You know the most common thing I hear out of car enthusiast mouths is that GM really screwed up by not offering a base v8.

Im talking stripped, no frills, V8 manual car.

It seems to me that GM forgot that this car was meant to be a pony killer, not a luxury cruiser... They ran off the majority of the people who want these cars with the 30k+ price tag.

To be honest MOST of the people I have even seen in the new SS are women in their mid 40s...

Then again, I may just be crazy...

The auto is an option, I got a base car.... it's a 1SS Manual with no options.

Now the sales guy did think I was crazy when I asked if I could delete;

Radio
Air Conditioning
Anti Lock Brakes
Stabiltrac
Power Windows
OnStar
Big Brembo Brakes
Drivers Power Seat
Console
Rear Seat
Carpet
Insulation
Fog Lights
Keyless Entry
Cruise Control
Tilt Wheel

Oh well.....

LOL...seriously though this is just the first year of production, as they start to develop demand they will bring additional models into existence...They just announced the z28 will be back, that's a big deal, but a stripper version wouldn't get a big publicity so chances are they would just introduce that when they're ready to begin production. I'd really love to see it like this:

V6 LS (Cheaper 3800cc stripper V6 in the 18k range)
V6 1lt
V6 2lt
V8 LS (Basically a stripper in the 27k range)
V8 1SS
V8 2 SS
Z/28 (LSA Motor - 556 hp in the 50k range)
ZL1 (LS9 Motor - 620hp in the 70k range)

Realistically that's all possible if sales are really high, I mean when the S197 Mustang rolled out in '05 did you think anyone was saying ok, lets start making a 725hp Supersnake...no, but sales went crazy and a market presented itself...so if that happens with the Camaro, then a ZL1 type car all of sudden becomes possible...probably with the help of a GMMG or SLP or soemthing like that, but possible none the less.

If you see them start popping up in SCCA, start looking for RPO code 1LE and order that.

I won't be buying one as I'm not going to pay a body shop to remove that gay onstar antenna on a brand new car. Plus if I want leather I don't want all of the extra BS that comes with it. The car's already heavy enough.

It would be really cool if they would offer a lightweight option on the car using lightweight bodyparts and materials. Even if it was something like they did with the C5 Z06. That coupled with a low or no options buildsheet would make for a mean street ride

What does a base model Mustang V8 cost?

I think a base 1SS manual '10 is $32,500 MSRP?

base or low rent camaros are what got the 4th gen killed.

you want people to enjoy buying them new and used, not have a car without ac or something.

elaborate...because I thought it might have been the price at the time or the continued success of the fox mustang and its overabundant aftermarket

Nah it actually had more to do with the fact that women like the v6 drop top stang compared to v6 drop top camaro more.

Ford makes its mustang money from v6 sells, GM wanted to do the same but the their v6 models did not appeal to women at all and thats not a shocker.

My mother drove my f body a couple of times and she is 5'4 she cant see over the hood unless she sits on a pillow in the car, plus she hates the long heavy doors and the fact you have to roll out and fall in to get in and out of the car.

Basically the 4th gen fbody was doomed from the start since it was to race inspired for women.

YES

If anyone remembers what the 2002 Camaro prices were, the 2010 prices are a lot more. I remember a 2002 Base Z28 going for $22,000 - 23,000 (sticker) and a Base V6 was around $16-17k

Sure its 8-9 years later but still more than it should be for a "Base" 2010 Camaro.

I think GM should have built a base LS style SS. I wouldn't want a base V8 but I know a lot of people would go for it w/ the cheaper price and being more race ready.

A 1SS with zero options seems pretty basic to me. What do you people want?
