Default Best Muffler for 98-Newer Camaro's T/A's???

Hey all, putting exhaust on my 01 T/A. It has a big cam, LT's, but I'm taking off the cat-back that is on it. I'm putting on true duals with cat delete. I drive a lot of highway (M6 MPG is awesome btw ), and I want the quietest muffler I can get without losing signifigant power. I know that wide open sounds great (thats why I'm getting electric cutouts as well ), but I have a BIG cam, so I want to quiet it down inside for city driving and crusing. I have allready Dynamat'ed the interior, which reduced squeaks and rattles down to almost nothing, and reduced exhaust drone and road noise, but it still has annoying resonance (Borla xr-1's are on it now I think). I am considering Flowmaster 50 series SUV or something similar. Any input on quiet(er) mufflers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

nothing really, longtubes, true duals, BIG CAM, its goin to be loud no matter what. if u want it quiet then yes obviously nothing thats a straight through muffler would work. u can do a flowmaster 3 chamber muffler. they are mellow.

If you don't no the true duals. Check out magnaflow (think i spelled it rite) That should quiet it down.

You could do Dynomax Ultraflows, or 5" round Magnaflows. But with true duals on an F-body, you're somewhat space limited so most of the large case queit mufflers aren't going to fit well. You could probably find room for 4 smaller mufflers, like the Mag or Ultraflow I just mentioned, two on each side. Both flow extremely well.

Magnaflow Performance Series mufflers or even quiter would be a Walker Quiet-Flow. The Cherry Bomb Elite looks good too. I have had Cherry Bomb products before and they have lasted and sounded great, so I am leaning towards that. Any experience??? I am concerned the larger cases will not fit. I like the 4 muffler deal, that doesnt sound as hard as trying to wedge a 28" case into an F-Body undercarriage lol.

Walker resonators? Anyone used them or heard of them being used on F-Bodies. Just trying to reduce the lope sound of that big G5X3 cam. It's daily driven btw.

Thrush welded mufflers! About 30 bucks, and are flowmaster 40 series copies best sound for the money. I have a decent sized cam (XER281HR) and it is pretty quiet in the car, not too loud at WOT either...in the car that is. Out side it is certainly loud at WOT, but fairly mellow at idle.

Thanks! Fits with no clearance issues? Are they dumped before the axle of out the back?

My thrush fit ok, I have true duals and tucked them under the rear bumper, almost like the new mustangs have them. If you have a neatly designed true dual setup you can probably fit them under the floor board. Mine are 19" long, 9" wide, 3-4" tall.

If you have a single muffler set up you will be fine, they are just like a flowmaster 40 series, if not an exact copy.

Hooker areo (aero, not sure on spelling) chambers. Nice deep tone, not loud though. Much better sound than Flowmasters

Flowmaster 40 series is not in any way at all quiet. Not even close.

If they are similar in volume, the OP will NOT be happy with that. I have FM 40 series on my Nova now, with true duals, LTs, and a mildly cammed SBC motor. Personally, I love the sound of flowmatser 40 series, but this is NOT a quiet setup. And the OP's car has more compression and a bigger cam than I do.

PS. I used to have Dynomax SuperTurbo flows. They were much quieter than Flowmaster 40 series, too quiet for me which is why I switched.

super turbos are very quiet, hell maybe i'm going deaf. I've had glasspacks on the past two motors, one with sidepipes, THAT was loud. So the thrush welded seem a lot quieter to me.

If you want "stock" quiet turbo mufflers are definitely the way to go. I had a dynomax super turbo (too quiet as said) and switched to the thrush welded ( flowmaster 40) which is just right to me.

Short clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eTsXgV1xL8

Also saw you have no cats, that would be significantly louder than mine, go turbos, most parts places also have thrush turbo/dynomax turbo mufflers for 30-40 bucks a piece.

Ah, that explains why the FM 40s don't sound loud to you on that setup.

Cam + LTs + a no cat, true dual setup with FM 40s is very loud on a 10+:1 motor.

Definitely, I did run a dynomax super turbo (apparently dynomax/thrush/walker are the same company) on the same car without cats, that sounded a little louder than stock, of course with more grumble at WOT but over all very quiet given the combination.

I agree, dynomax super turbo is very quiet, even without cats and a built motor. It was much too quiet for me on the weekend toy, but for a daily driver it'd be nice.

But it uses the standard muffler shape, though the case is only 14" long. Not sure where he wants to put the mufflers, just thought it might be easier to run multiple round Dynomax Ultraflows or Magnaflows in the I-pipes or tail pipes.

Do you have pics of how you mounted your mufflers?

Magnaflows , which i'm not a fan of but there quite when your cruisin but are loud when you get on it. IMO just get a louder stereo system so you can't hear it LOL

I don't have that beefy of a setup, but my 40 series Flowmaster is pretty mild sounding below about 3200.
