Default Would you blatantly call someone out on a clone WS6/SS?

Saw a LS1 TA a couple of days ago driving down the road with a stock flat hood, 16" wheels and a WS6 badge on the back. I was feeling like I wanted to pull up next to him and lecture him, but I was thinking "It's his car, so he can do whatever the hell he's wants to it."

Would you blatantly strike up a conversation then call somebody out at a car meet or car show who throws SS or WS6 badges on a non-SS/WS6 car or just play it off?

Who says it wasnt wrecked and he just put on a stock hood? You would look like an idiot.

It is their car, who cares?

i wouldn't. i have a formula and got an aftermarket ws6 style hood. i didnt get the badges but i just loved the hood. as long as they have an fbody i would look past the badge. just have a little laugh and be glad you are lucky enough to have the real thing.

if they were talking it up like it was a real SS/WS6 then sure i would. but if not, who cares. i wouldn't re-badge a car for something it wasn't, just stupid to me. i could think of better hood options for Z28's or trans ams than the SS or WS6 hoods anyway. but if somebody wants to make a clone, why not. just don't make it out to be, or tell people it's 'real'.

I don't believe I'd rudely blurt out, "Fake!" LOL But I might ask the guy what happened to the WS6 Hood that's supposed to be on a WS6 Car.

Some of the first LSx WS6 T/As (I believe they had to be Convertible) came with 16" WS6 Wheels. So that could be the case with the wheels, but again, the hood is dead giveaway.

Like you said, its his/her car to do with as he/she pleases. In my opinion, it looks tacky and I definitely have better things to do my ride than spend money on badges.

Who cares what they do with their cars? Ive seen a guy with a corvette put a GTR badge on his car... who cares? You have to be pretty imature to care what someone else is doing to THEIR car.

I told someone I was gonna get a SS spoiler and hood for my z28 and they flipped out saying only the SS's should have that and since I have a z28 I am not allowed to use those parts.. what a tool. Seriously, the difference between a z28 and an SS is not all that much besides rearend, hood, suspension, spoiler, and a power steering cooler.... there may be something else im missing, but i have nearly everything replaced on my car anyhow!

Who cares if it's a clone even if they try to pass it off as a real one? Does it matter? Not really.

It's their car, it makes them happy, no need to hate on them.

I have a 99 trans am with the hood and the badge and when people ask I let them know its a clone. I also bought another trans am and converted it to a formula and when I get the ram air hood ill get a WS6 badge. I don't see a problem with it as long as you inform folks its a clone, and even I'f you don't most people don't know much about them......

Not unless they were trying to sell it to someone as genuine. If it makes them happy, I'd leave them be, it's their car.

Personally when I put a ws6 or ws9 hood on my car for the ram air I plan to put a ws6 badge on my car simply so I can avoid the whole why do you have that hood if your car isn't a ws6 convo with people.

Wouldn't change me from saying I own a trans am when I am asked.

Most peoples cars aren't stock anyway lol, there are many 6 cylinder cars running around with ls1s in them, I think the least of our worries is a car with a badge on it haha

The only way I would call some one out on on it would be if they were trying to sell it or trying to talk it up like it was a true ws6/ss.

Agreed with those that said if the owner tried to pass it off as genuine, they would strike up the conversation.

Also agree that it is not that big of a deal either way.

The base SS & WS6 packages are, for the most part, just cosmetics anyway; so I don't really see anything wrong with making a clone out of another V8 model if you want (though I wouldn't clone a V6 without doing an engine swap also). It's not like an SS/WS6 is anything special (as compared to base V8s), performance wise.

But, if I had a clone I would always be honest about it being a clone if someone asked, especially if I was selling it.

Never say never when it comes to factory GM stuff. I daresay you can find an example of nearly anything.

I concur with a wreck/replacement hood. Maybe for some reason they didn't like the ws6 hood, and the 16"s do lead to better gas mileage.

I've got a v6 done up like a ws6, I'd tell people to #%^& off if they don't like it. Looks cool, insurance is cheaper, better gas mileage. If I'm going to have v6 for a daily driver, why not make it look like a v8? Not like I'm trying to sell it or anything, no badges, still says Firebird. It's kind of like prepping a parts car with every part you might eventually need. I daresay that one day everything will be either stored, or used to replace failing body parts on the 99 Trans Am I've got.

Not to nit-pick your post, but you get better gas mileage than an LS1 with your 3.8? This has not been my experience with 4th gens.
