Default Ever sold your fbody for another one

Well, have you? I'm considering selling my bolt on 98 trans am for a newer (01-02) ws6 or ss. I'm really looking for a fresh start. Money isn't the issue for me. My car is getting old but is still under 100k. I thought about selling and upgrading to a zo6 as well. But if I'm going to mod it (cam for sure), I figure the fbody would save a couple g's for the time being. So, if you have sold one fbody just to buy another, were you happy with the trade off? Or would you do something different given the chance again.

not yet..because money is an issue lol.
Maybe when i DD this one up to 150k-200k in 5-7 years, ill get a new one as a weekend warrior.
And you can just upgrade a ls1 with a z06 cam and an ls6 intake...saves a lot of money haha.

I sold my 02 SS M6 when I was in NY, moved out to San Diego, CA and bought my 00 Z28... Hated it.. Moved back to NY where I bought my Z06. I wouldn't sell it just to get a newer one.

I sold a '99 Z28 to get a '00 WS6 (in 2000), then I got tired of the Trans Am look, so I went back to a '98 Z28 a few years later, and also added an '02 Z28 a couple years after that. An SS would be just as good, but my tastes have changed and Trans Ams just aren't my style now. In the end, I'm very happy with where I ended up and I don't regret making the change at all.

I sold my 97 TA to get a 99 WS6. I was definitely happy with the decision. I was tired of dealing with the opti spark and the ls1 was way more fun. I was happy with the 99 until an 80 year old t-boned it.

I am in the process of selling my 96 Camaro v6 because I bought my 2000 Z28. No regrets. Of course it's hard to regret an extra 100 hp

I bought my '02 V6 in 2008 from my Mom with only 12k on the clock. Then in February of 2010 I bought my SS and sold my V6 the following May.

The only reason I regret selling the V6 was because we had the car since it came from the dealership and were the only ones to turn a wrench on it. The SS had a previous owner and unknown history. I still miss my V6 every once in a while.

It really depends on what condition your 98 is it? In the grand scheme of things there isn't any big differences between 98-02 that will make you more happy with one over the other. So if yours is in good condition I would keep it and start modding it if you want. But if yours is not in the greatest condition and you want a cleaner platform for when you start modding I would do it in a second.

I have had 4 different LS1 F bodies and really didn't like any of them better then the others except for the fact that some were in better condition then others.

The only way I could see it being worth doing what you're talking about doing is if you could sell yours for enough to cover the new car plus taxes, tags, and it was in better shape.

Otherwise I don't see the point just to change years. Not enough difference to be worth the hassle

I traded my 96 Z28 vert (+ $7k) in to the dealer for a 2002 Z28. I also sold my 89 RS for $$$ towards my 98 Z28.

I seriously thought about selling my A4 Formula when as it got closer to the 100k mark and getting one with lower miles. But I just couldn't get around to it.

I've DD'd this car for 8 years and it's really been good to me ... all my mods have worked out great and I'm not sure I want to start all over again. I have my M6 car to mix things up occasionally, but it was never intended to replace my A4.

Then again, I sometimes think that I want to find a Sunset Orange A4 and just go down to having one f-body rather than the two.

I went 99 WS6 to 92 Corvette, to 91 Corvette. Now I have an 02 WS6 and the 91 Corvette.

IMO, a nice F-body is just as good as another. I wouldn't sell one that was nice one to get another nice one. If yours is ragged out, beat on, or just abused - I would sell that car to get one that isn't so shabby.

That is one thing I've noticed about F-bodies, the prices have come down to the point that it has allowed people that really shouldn't have them to afford them. Uncaring owners combined with a car that has somewhat shoddy build quality from the factory results in a HUGE difference in a car that has been cared for and one that has been owned by some jack ***.

Don't get me wrong, any kind of car that sees poor maintenance and abuse will be worn out, but the F-bodies don't seem to tolerate careless owners very well. I have an 02 BMW 330 that has nearly 200K on it. I bought it with 170K on it, and it's had probably a dozen owners. There's no way every one of the previous owners treated the car with care and/or respect. I beat the snot out of the car, and it's flawless. The interior is flawless, the paint is great (a few stone chips aside) the car runs 14.5's at the track, and you really can't tell the difference between it and one with 30K on the clock. The car just tolerates poor owner care better than an F-body will.

Back on topic - I like the C4 better than the C5. I've been through two C5 Zo6 cars (one with a pro-charger) and more often than not I found myself sliding into the C4 when both cars were in the garage.

The F-body is a tremendous car, a great compromise for a car that is comfortable to travel in, has 4 seats, etc... The only real difference I was able to find in the C5 and the F-body was the sheer mass of the vehicle. Compared to a vette, the F-body is a tank. The F-body doesn't feel as nimble, is lethargic in it's reactions to driver input, and ultimately is a V8 version of a V6 car.

The C4 is so raw compared to the later model cars. It just feels like a sports car when I drive it. After a few minutes in the C5, or the F-body, unless I'm paying attention I'll forget that I am driving a world class sports car. Unless I put my right foot down, the driving experience is no different than any late model GM car. The C4 never lets me forget that it's a sports car. The C4 has a soul... The newer GM stuff, just doesn't have that intangible 'it' factor that the C4 does.

Sure have!

I purchased a cherry pewter 01 Trans Am A4 with 13k on the clock in early 03. Installed a ram air hood, Firehawk wheels, cam, stall, bolt-ons, nitrous, you get the picture. I really settled for that car cause I originally wanted an actual WS.6, black, 6 speed, etc, so in feb of 05, I let my TA go and got another cherry car-02, black on black WS.6 M6 100% stock down to the paper filter, original tires, 25k on the clock, not even tinted windows! I still have it today with ZERO regrets! Go for it man!
