Default Engine swap idea?

I currently have a 99 ws6 with about 113k miles, mostly highway miles, but sooner or later my engine will go. I kinda want to get an LS6, I know the ls1 & ls6 are very similar, does anyone know how hard or easy it would be to swap to an ls6?

Which also leads to my next idea. I absolutely love the late 80s trans am gta, I would love to buy one ans swap an ls1 in there.
And ideas on how this would go?

Definitely correct me if I'm wrong

to each his own but I'd go with a stroked 6.0 swap before an ls6 and take your ls1 and put it in the 3rd gen if your contemplating doing 2 swaps

I dont think it would be worth it to go from ls1 to ls6. Go with a ls3 or something bigger. My buddy has a ls6 z28, he had a shop do it but they finished it in a day or two so I assume its not much diff then ls1 to ls1.

I also have an LS6 crate in my 02. As others have said, it is a direct swap from the LS1. Some vendor's may still have new old stock LS6 long blocks. I remember someone selling them maybe a year ago for approx $3200 delivered.

I'd leave well enough alone if nothing is wrong with your LS1 right now. As far as a 3rd swap look in the conversion and swap section, I'm sure there are plenty of threads on that swap.

Upgrade to the ls2. Just get yourself a 6.0L bottom end, get some ls6 heads and put the rest of what you already have on there. That's what I did and I love it. Then again, my #7 piston took a ****, so I decided to upgrade instead. If your ls1 is still fine, I say have your fun with that instead.

If you are going to take the time and money in swapping in a new motor, definitely go bigger than an LS6. A LQ4/9 or LS2 would give you better bang for your buck.

def go with an LS2 or bigger...if you check out the new super chevy they took a 5.3L iron block and bored and stroked it to a 383 and put some trick flow heads on it w/ FAST intake and TB and made 500+ crank HP...then they put on a 2.9L whipple supercharger and at 9.2 Lbs of boost they made 804 HP and 625 tq i beleive.. so put that in there instead!!!

Wow this is great advice

Well I think I've established I'd throw my LS1 into a 3rd gen, but as far as what will go into my 99... I see that most people are saying LS2 or LS3.

I'm kinda new to actually going on internals of the engines, when you say stroked, what is this referring to?

Longer crank,

LQ blocks and LY block are the LS motors iron truck brother.

You can take a 6.0 (iron or aluinum) (the LS2 is the 6.0 Alum) will have a 4" bore it can be taken all the way about to a 4.030bore some go more but that's the norm. There are a ton of bore and stroke combo's

4.000" bore/stroke combinations
3.622" stroke: 364.1ci or 6.0L (Stock)
4.000" stroke: 392.1ci or 6.4L
4.100” stroke: 412.2ci or 6.8L
4.125" stroke: 414.7ci or 6.8L

4.030" bore/stroke combinations
4.000" stroke: 408.2ci or 6.7L
4.100” stroke: 418.4ci or 6.9L
4.125" stroke: 420.9ci or 6.9L

The LS3 block is newer still and come with a larger factory bore.

4.060" bore/stroke combinations
3.622" stroke: 375.1ci or 6.2L (Stock)
4.000" stroke: 414.2ci or 6.8L
4.100” stroke: 424.6ci or 7.0L
4.125" stroke: 427.2ci or 7.0L

Keep in mind there are some changes going from the gen 3 blocks (lq4, lq9, ls1, ls6) to the gen 4 blocks (ly6, ls2, ls3, ls7, ls9, lsa). This going to be about an extra 600 bucks if you get one of the conversion kits.

Just pick a block size and go from there because the power is in your valvetrain mostly. Make sure the engine can breathe (intake and exhaust) too. You might need to just call and talk with some sponsors once you have the cash and are ready to pull the trigger. Plenty of great guys on here to deal with and some of them really know their ****.

Ok so this is going to be my first post on Ls1 tech. Maybe my post will have nothing to do here. But im going to go ahead and let it all out. For starters i used to drive a civic si for 1 year andb i totally hated. Then i got a firebird v6 1998 with 60k miles on odo and yes it was auto tranny... Go ahead call me a lil biiotch. Long story short the car has now 170k miles. I do love the body style the t tops are great and definetely a chick magnet (look at that blonde on the left.. thats my girl) NOW here goes the bomb. I have access to totaled ls1 camaros and fbirds they go into auctions all day. I was thinking will it make sense to upgrade my v6 to ls1.?? I dont wish to find another car since i have a long romantic history with my v6. I ve shared soo many good moments and bad moments with it. Im not trying to or gonna get rid off. I woul like to know if swaping v6 to ls1 is the way to go. Please if u are gonna tell me "there are other threads about my inquiery" kindly please pm me... Ive already tried finding some info but NADA. Go ahead send me some love or hate i will appreciated and thanks.!!!

Itd be easier to swap your nose on to a wrecked one, but since you have sentimental value in yours, ls1 is the way to go. Keep in mind you gunna need a lot of parts, (fuel system, suspension, computer, harness, all conversion parts) but if you get a complete car I can't see it being too hard.

I wouldn't swap an LS6 in it. Not worth it. You'd be better off just building a motor with what's already there.

stroke it, callies crank and rods, diamond pistons, ls6 intake, ported heads and some Nitrous, = 600rwhp could be more if you want to to be brave with the nitrous. love my LS1,

or if you want you could buy all my factory internals that have 17k miles on it just to freshen your block up, wouldn't recommend it but you'd sure help me clean out my garage.
