LS7 questions...
how reliable is the LS7? I remember reading something somewhere that cylinder walls were weak in that block.. I have an opportunity to pick one up cheap with low low miles, Less than 15k for a little over 1k runs smooth and quiet and no mods its out of an 06.

car is totaled he already replaced the car hes just let this thing sit in the garage, until he finds someone that wants the rest of the parts that are good. I'm probably going to go pull it next week, I already talked to him today about it so its all good

I have heard a lot of horror stories about the LS7's failing under any kind of power. They appear to be pretty decent when they are built and tuned properly (which isn't cheap at all), but they just seem to be very hit or miss with the stock internals and block. But despite that, with the deal you're getting I would probably go ahead and take the chance.

Yes its still dry sump, Can you not use that in an F-body? im sure there isnt much room for the pump down there but, I havn't swaped anything in a 4th gen. and even so how much does a LS7 go for? way more than i would have in it even with parts.. I also work on cars for a living so i have almost any tools i would need and a lift i can use at my shop

I believe there has only been a few F-body's with a real dry sump LS7. More work than converting to F-body oil pan and wetsump. Not sure how much stock LS7's go for really.

I read in a magazine article somewhere that you can change to a wet sump just by replacing the oil pan and pickup. The oil pump is still behind the siming cover. The dry sump doesnt have an external pump like old style dry sump systems. Even the LS7 has a pickup tube, it just bolts to the pan. The LS7 dry sump uses and external tank for a resevour and the tank hoses connect to the pan. I am pretty sure thats how the system works if memory serves me correctly. Been a while since I read the article. Also You can turn a normal wet sump system to dry sump by using LS7 pan on other LSX engines.

10k isn't a bad deal, much less 1k. the sleeves are week above 750hp, resleeving isn't to bad since it is a dry sleeve set-up 1500++. Dry sump, front cover, and all kinds of other stuff has to be changed, i went through all of this on a 06 GTO build but it is not to bad, i think you have to drill the block for the pick-up tube for the F-body oil pan. ud be better off selling it to a vette guy and build a LSX based motor for the money. you either have to change the reluctor/crank to a 24x or buy the LFE conversion box. 150shot or 6lbs boost it'll be ok most likely with a conservative tune IHMO

Good luck!!
Oh yes, the wet sump produced more HP (dyno), than the dry sump! Kind of neat for those of us considering an LS7.

I know its been a while, I did get the engine out last week.. Now I'm not so sure that i am going to use it, I have a good friend that has a hawk and really wants to do this swap a lot more than i do.. I would rather get a forged rotating assembly, Cam and heads for my car maybe go 383 or something along those lines...
