Default LS1 Actual Rear Wheel Horsepower?!

So I have been back & forth with people now. I am really wondering what the actual stock horsepower to the rear wheels for say a 2002 Camaro Z28. I've been told that the 305 HP listed by Chevy is to the crank. I've also been told that it has around 366 HP to the crank due to a 20% loss to the rear wheels so it would actually be 305 HP to the rear wheels. So many numbers but I can't find an actual reliable source. Does anyone know positively what it is stock? I'm getting work done to my car & will be getting it back soon. It is getting dyno tuned & would really like to know the increase in power that I'm making. Dyno sheets or any actual proof someone can provide me would be really appreciated!

310 hp @ 5200 rpm @ crank - subtrack ~14% parasitic loss for a manual, and ~16-18% for an auto.

So it is looking like it's just right around 266ish HP to the rear wheels? Did you have a motor dyno'd at this or where did you get your info from?

I think it's generally accepted that the RWHP for a stock LS1 is in the 300-320 range stock (depending on the dyno). Some factory freaks will do higher, some will do sub-300. Being your car has a lid, catback, LS6 intake, and a tune I would guess yours will be around 320ish RWHP?

The factory 305 crank HP rating is of course underrated.

Gm was pretty conservative with their horsepower ratings at the time, Ive seen a number of stock LS1s make in excess of 300rwhp. Of course we all know there are variables from dyno to dyno, weather, etc.

I think most will agree. I have 2002 Z28 a4 140k completely stock with the exception K&N filpak and it did 299 hp 296 tq on a dynojet.

I have personally seen a stock (flowmaster cat-back) auto dyno 295 and a stock (with optional blackwing lid) manual M6 SS dyno 325. 310 crank horsepower? No. That would put crank horsepower between 340 and 360.

Hm okay well we will see. I am getting some work done to my car at the shop right now & will be doing a couple of dyno pulls once it is all ready to go. I'll post up my numbers if anyone is interested. The car should be back Wednesday night.

A 2002 Z28 gets the same LS1 that a 2002 C5 would have received. They are both ~350hp engines (crank), only difference between the two is the factory exhaust system and the fictional factory horsepower rating of the F-body.

The '98-'00 LS1s had a marginally different cam profile between C5 and F-bodies versions, but power output, based on average stock RWHP dyno numbers, was generally the same between the C5 and F-body versions of the LS1 in those years as well.

Hm sounds good to me. So the 305 rating for HP from Chevy is actually a legit number?

No, the 305hp crank rating from GM is not correct. Many people have proven this with stock rear-wheel HP numbers that meet or even exceed this fictional crank number.

The 350hp crank rating from Chevy for the Corvette is pretty close to accurate. And that same 350hp numer is equally accurate for the LS1 found in F-bodies as well....GM just didn't want to make it "official".

This question seems to come up every few months...
No, the "305hp" rating was an underrated number from GM, they have always underrated their hp numbers, especially if it gets close to Corvette numbers.
In reality the LS1 (ALL LS1s) make around ~345-350hp give or take to the crank. ***all manufacturers rate at the crank***

Let's see what kind of power I make then! I'll post up the numbers Wednesday night. I doubt it will be anything more than 320 HP though with what I have. Everything I have listed in my signature is what is done to the car & it is getting TSP 1 7/8" headers, TSP Y-Pipe with high flow cats & a tune.

~320rwhp for your current mods (air lid and catback) would be pretty typical for an '02 M6 car.

But once the LT headers and dyno tune are done, you should be expecting more than that.

Must be something wrong with that 98 vette, it getting 7hp and 6 tq less than the Z28 on the same dyno. Must have been on a mustang dyno those are pretty conservative numbers.

That is most likely due to the IRS of the C5 eating up more power than the live axle on the Trans Am. It's also quite normal for the same car to dyno a few HP different from one run to the next, so margin of error could also be a factor.

No Z28s were involved though.

my 2002 camaro ss, M6, 3:42 10-bolt rear, all stock, stock 10 spoke oem rims with the goodyear 275/40-17 tires, dyno'd 328hp and 341 lb-ft. that was around 2005 I think.
Only thing that may not have been stock was a k&n filter in the oem blackwing airbox. engine was also on 5w-40 oil. This was in october in the evening around 6pm.
