yellow residue/ice under oil cap, ls1
found yellowish residue underneath the oil cap a few days ago. I've posted here before that I've had an oil consumption problem, without any head gasket symptoms, so I bought everything to do an ls6 valley cover update to fix the pcv problem. I chose not to do the upgrade until the spring because of the cold (I don't have a garage). So is the yellow stuff just condensation from not letting the engine heat up thoroughly? It's been insanely cold here in southeastern PA, and I have indeed been taking short trips in the morning to the gym, which is only 1 mile away.
The yellow stuff even turned to ice in the cap, which is pretty crazy. I'm hoping it's not a head gasket, or else I will push the car off a cliff lol
coolant levels/color looks fine, I have no head gasket symptoms, other than that cap stuff. Here's a couple of photos to help
Those blisters are actually ice which I had to warm and then wipe off

Looks pretty typical of short trips in cold weather.
Is the dipstick clean?

If you're not letting the engine warm up before you start driving to the gym, then start. What you're seeing is condensation and with very short drives it's not going away, it'll only get worse since the engine has not got hot enough for the water to evaporate/boil off.

Yep, short trips in cold weather will cause that. I've never had that problem in my Z28 (probably because I try to avoid doing it), but have seen it in one of my old beater cars.

yeah you guys are absolutely right! I took it for a 25 min drive today to Delaware, after letting it warm up for 10 min, and when I got back, there was absolutely nothing on the cap. This is a huge relief!
