Has anyone used the 8.1 as a engine of choice for a ls swap? And was it stock or built?

The 8.1 isn't a part of the LS family, The 8.1 is a 496 Big Block with EFI that is the GEN1 block redesigned with different features but has more in common with the GEN1 then the GEN3/4 LS family.

The 8.1L as said above isn't a LS motor, and it's also expensive and has limited aftermarket support when compared to a LS motor or a earlier more traditional BBC. If you want a 496 (8.1L) you would be better off just starting with a standard 454 and having it rebuilt with a stroker kit and add aftermarket EFI to it.

Ok thanks for all the information, I guess I'll close the on 8.1 idea and stick to the more common 408 ly6 with the ls3 intake.
