2016 Z06 Catches Fire While Driving
Yesterday, while driving my Z06, my car caught fire. Here are some pictures and the news article about the incident. Is anyone else familiar with similar incidents? Or am I the only person who's supercar that was less than a year old bursts into flames for no reason?

Additional note, there was a bang, followed by what seemed like something "shredding" from the car and slapping the body. A few seconds later, another loud bang, and a warning on the cluster saying "Suspension System", followed by loss of power.

The auto transmisions on the C7 Z06 has had a really bad problem with overheating. Doesn't sound like the problem you had, but never know. Sorry about you car, but on the bright side this give you the opportunity to get the new ZR1 Glad you got out safely!

Sounds like a possible shock failure that took out the fuel line, based on what you are describing. I've not heard of any failure issues on that suspension system, but I guess there's a first time for everything (assuming my guess is even in the ballpark).
Glad you got out safely. Hopefully insurance gets this squared away for you quickly.

I don't know if they can determine anything from burnt wreckage like that, but i wonder if GM might want to take a look at it if there's anything they can tell as to a cause? I know they've wanted to dig into major failures in the past to try to sort out if it was a freak thing or a design/part issue, or what.

NBC did a piece on it, for more info: http://cnycentral.com/news/local/man...ares-his-story
Nationwide inspector came to see the car and suspects the new Michelin tire in the front had as issue, came off the rim and knocked a hydronic line off or impacted the shock.
More to come! Still hoping I hear from Chevy or GM...

Well that's one way to reduce weight...
Joking aside glad you're ok and no injuries. If that car was stock I would be looking at GM to replace your car with another Z06 or provide a refund under warranty. With the deadly nature of this example the NHTSA would be interested.
Don't those come with electronic doors? If the electrical system fails or car catches fire can you still open the doors from inside AND outside?
