Aw heck...

TSP Darton 454, PRC 285s, "near turnkey" longblock with most parts, mostly TSP in house upgraded internals (aka not the high $ race parts) - $14K

MSD intake, Holley TB, injectors, fuel rail - $2155

Miscellaneous stuff, new starter, w/p, intake parts, etc - ~$2K

All in all wasn't that bad, actually budgeted 20K and spent about that all said and done.

I'm more bitter about the $3500 I paid for a cam install back in early '02 when I took it to a hick shop and they yanked the motor and turned a 4hr job into a two week one. But it motivated me to learn how to do (most) of my own work.

The new 418 rebuild that I'm going through at the moment is about $6500 in new parts between the lid/front cover and the rear main cover, re-using old heads, rockers, intake & exhaust. Sunk in about $13K since late 2017 on tires/wheels/suspension/steering. Clutch is coming up I'm sure, some AP Racing brakes, and larger headers too. If I was crazy, I would have bought the Cortex front SLA kit.

Can't risk scaring away the NA builds otherwise we won't have much to talk about in the Gen III engine forum

On don't worry my next NA build a 402 in the planning...

Used LS2 block $800
Used GMPP 243 heads $1,200
Fixing all the issues with used heads to make me happy $800
Summit upgraded LS1 rockers $200

New Mamo ported LSXR intake for the heads $1,450

Being me dumb enough to share the cost and my mistake with buying heads that need several little issues fixed - priceless

LOL! I think so, check in, get some counseling, free recommendations for alternative parts and encouragement to try forced induction on the next build

1951 Desoto wagon build

$1400 for low mileage Gen IV truck 5.3 with VVT and DOD deleted and a “thinned harness”
$600 for new harness, because the previously mentioned harness wasn’t even for a Gen IV
$200 for accessory brackets
$650 for custom headers
$900 for CTSV T56
$200 for Sonnax yoke adapter
$600 for my 4 link kit
$200 for disc brake conversion adapters
$650 for Vintage Air kit
$200 for AC compressor and plumbing
$1100 air bag kit
$200 generic auto electrical harness

How much for my time for researching all of this? HAAHAA. God I hope my wife never reads this thread....

Forgot about this thread...it’s over here in no-mans land. No offense meant by that of course.

Used LS2 block $600
RED Darton sleeve install $2150
Rotating assembly 434” $2400
Mamo package including loaded MMS 265’s, ported MSD, custom solid roller, ISKY solid lifters, ARP headbolts, ATI 10% UD damper, NW 102, ARP damper bolt, custom Manton pushrods, head gaskets, injectors, LS7 fuel rail, YT rockers, ported Melling oil pump $14k+
Holley pan $300
Front, rear, valley covers $250
Windage tray $100
ARP Main studs $215
ARP bolts throughout $200
Billet timing set $150
Katech billet main caps $500
Machine work for final hone, fitting billet main caps/align hone, and misc. stuff $1400
2” ARH headers $1400
Walbro 450 $100
Return fuel line and fittings/regulator $250

Associated other costs...
RPS BC2 clutch used $800...not part of engine build, but required, trust me
I needed an oil cooler so I went with an Improved Racing MHX-520 and lines/fittings/thermostat $800
Katech valve covers, slotted, with custom engraving done by another shop, coil relocation brackets, and wires $1100
Fluids add up quick, especially oil

Put 40 miles on it, and tore it back down for re-ring and crank polish. So there’s another ring set, custom Cometic headgaskets, bearings, and fluids, etc..

So...I was at $24,715 just engine, but there’s some shipping costs for block that I didn’t mention, and then another $2700 for clutch, oil cooler, and valve covers. Fluids add up quick. Probably have $300 in just oil, but I run Gibbs LS30. And I’m sure I’ve missed something here. I’ve got $1000 in tuning from Vengeance and it still needs work, that I didn’t mention. And now that it will spin to 7500-7700 on up shifts, I need a trans that will actually shift, so I’ve got a new Tremec T56 MagnumF in the works, so there’s another $3400...Geesh..no wonder my wife is pissed.

Pick your poison!

Over $16,000 tied up in my LSX build and its one of those addictions that make $100 bills disappear but hey at least I have something to show for it.

I am still getting the components together very slowly but as of right now I will have a total cost of $9706.26 just for motor parts when all is said and sone. I know I am missing things like sensors in the pricing but always looking for good deals.
