Default 02 camaro ss 6sp hardtop weight???

What would the weight of this vehicle be and how much less than a T-top car is it? I have the oppertunity to buy a 02 6sp hard top car and was wondering if I should just wait for a t-top car?

hardtop 3500 T-top 3300 glass tops - each panel only weighs 7lbs--;

sheet metal and the supports weigh more for the hard top

i'm pretty sure the hardtops are lighter.

i've seen a cloth/hardtop car weigh an even 100lbs less than a leather t-top car.

I am pretty sure the T-top car weighs more. If not i have been under the wrong impression the whole time. Anyone else?

although the weights are fairly close, the ss makes 335hp un modded, so its pretty easy for the ls1 to move the car...

althought the hard top has it aerodynamical advantages of the smooth top vs. the minor centerpiece and side bulges of the rain gutter (just what i call it). the differances of the weight and aerodynamics are barely noticeable if you are looking for 1/4mi times. and t- tops have more body flex than the hard tops

it all really comes down to personal taste in what your looking for, i personnaly like the T-tops

I weighed my t-top car at work (work at a DOT scale). It was 3400 lbs on the nose without me in it. This is with a full tank of fuel, and the spare tire and jack were in it.

Have you stripped the head liner off a hardtop, it's basically like a t-top shell that's covered over. T-top definitely weighs less

I also weighed my car and it came out to 3450 with spare, jack, leather, and it’s a t-top 2000 SS. Not sure how much gas was in it at the time.

Im pretty sure their right around the same, the only difference is that people who do ALOT of racing prefer hardtops b/c it makes the car more stable and the car flexes less

With my **** carpet, ding-dong *****, hybrid fuel, full custom 30-pak guage control unit, and my custom 2x3 speed hand / foot -moved semi automatic...mine weighed just over 3,400 universal lbs. So that goes to show, no 2 customized F-BODIES are created equal in the land of the free. [Canada]

1998 Camaro SS
T-Tops
100% full tank of gas
Cloth Interior
Heavy 17/18 Y2K wheels
Sparetire & Jack

3480 lbs

with spare/jack removed with a 1/4 tank of gas I should be in the 33xx range.

i would think the t-top car would weight less. t-tops are very light, less than 20 lbs for both of them according to my arms. i don't see how a metal roof could be lighter, but i'm sure the weight difference is negligible. buy a car based on the appeal, not on the type of roof. as long as it's not a convertible, the weight difference is negligible.

I am still going to believe that the hard top is lighter considering that the sheet metal is less than 2/16ths thick. I would love to know the real numbers though. Non the less I should be picking up an 02 SS hardtop 6sp this weekend

No you didn't, the real weights are published, can be found in the faq. From what I remember, ht and tt weight both about 130 lbs less than my convertible which I think was like 3460.

Even with the convertible it's basically negligable. 130 lbs or whatever it is, isn't much if you divide by the weight for the power to weight ratio. Though the hardtop chassis is stiffer than the vert if you want to talk about something besides the weight. My vert still kicks total *** I guess is my point

cant remember but i asked this awhile ago and if i remember right it was around the 10lbs difference and the weight advantage going to the hardtop... just another 10lbs i dont have to lose ...although i do miss my t tops in the summer
