Is an '04 Silverado SS worth buying?
I've been looking for a truck for a while and have been considering an '07 Silverado Z71 Crew or an '07 Avalanche Z71. But, my local Chevy dealer just happens to have a couple black SS's on the lot right now. An '05 and an '04. The '04 has less miles than the '05 (24,xxx vs. 35,xxx). They're asking about 25k for the '04. I haven't been particularly wanting a Silverado SS per say but, I do need a utility vehicle so I can keep the "non-leisure" miles off the Camaro, which is still my DD. I wouldn't normally consider purchasing a used automobile that's over a couple years old but, this is an SS and it would be kinda cool to have my own little "Super Sport Fleet." Plus, I could keep about 15k in my pocket vs. buying a new '07. Just need some opinions here. 25k seems a bit much, for me personally, to put into a nearly 4yr. old auto. What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

When I got my SSS we paid 23K for an 03 with 27,000 miles on it. I think the 04 is a good deal, and it's definetly worth it, as long as you dont mind the 13 mpg city and 15/16 mpg highway.

yeah, makes me sad thinking about it, not to mention that it takes premium. But when im sittin at a stop light and i rock off the line with the AWD, it makes it go away really fast, the gas and the pain that is.

SS once again because i love my truck. I'm in Florida right now and have to resort to driving my brothers vehicles, but i miss my truck more than i do the Z06, believe it or not. When im driving the SS i feel big and tough cause im driving a sweet *** truck, and when dumb VC drive up, the truck has enough ***** to take them down too. Plus the AWD is so fun, i never thought a stock truck could handle like that.
You will definetly not be dissapointed if you choose the SS.

I agree that having a truck is not the best for a DD expecially a hog like mine (dodge 318). I average around 15 mpg with a mix of hwy and city. I orginally set out to get a silverodo or a chevy truck but funds didnt allow me and this mid size dakota appealed to me pretty well. It actually stands pretty close to a ram and just looks real mean and tuff..lol. Any how i vote for the SS - cheaper and looks nicer and most of all, gets the job done

I'm still debating. I almost had an '06 Hummer H3. It had 27k on the odometer. I took it home and drove it for a weekend. I really liked it. That thing is incredibly nimble and a lot more maneuverable than I expected. And, the inline 5 supposedly gets 16/20 mpg on regular unleaded. More than enough power and pick-up for a DD. I really wanted that H3 but, they wouldn't deal on it. The thing had a step bar that was bent all to hell and this ugly, black patch panel covering a gaping hole in the light gray headliner where the dome light should've been and, most likely, a DVD player used to be. They had it listed for $31,995 and I kinda low-balled them to see how much they would come down (I offered 25k) and they said that was the best they could do because they had too much in it. I laughed and walked away, especially considering that 100 yards down the road was the Hummer dealership that had identical '07 models listing for $34-35k.
All that to say, I was considering that black SSS as an alternative, and I still might.

Check to see if it is an AWD, because not all SS trucks were....have a friend who had an '04 2wd...was a REALLY nice truck, and it was quick too. He traded it for an SRT8 Charger recently.

Well, it is an AWD and as cool as it would be to have one, I just don't think it's gonna suit my needs. I need something that will haul more than two people, some cargo and pull a trailer if need be (and hopefully not get less MPG than my Camaro). That's why I was originally looking at an '07 Z71 Silverado Crew. I thought that H3 would be a less expensive alternative but, they wouldn't deal on it. Oh well, I figure the longer I wait the more money I'll have for a down payment… which will widen my possible options.
