Default LS1 SS Vs LS1 Vette

i have a 1998 camaro ss, that is decently modded, slp lts, lm1, pulleys, i think the corvette throttle body, ftra, slp air box lid, 4.10 gears, maybe a few things more. but anyway i have that and my friends dad will put 500 dollars on it that i cant beat his slightly modded if any mods at all ls1 c5 vette. we are going to race 1/4 mile at a strip. i have a m6 hes got an a4. i would think i would have no problem beating him, if i dont spin tires the half way down the track that is. but he and my friend seem confident enough that their vette, (with a 200 mph speedometer to my 155 mph speedometer), will win. i agreed about right away just for his speedometer comment that made me laugh my *** off. i guess those new honda civics with a 200 mph speedometer would be faster too? lol. my thought on that was easy money, either way, what do yall think?

I think u will probably take him, but u aren't sure what his mods are?? I would not think of this as easy money.

Depends on the mods on the vette. Afew times ago at the track I had an A4 C5 vette vert, running neck and neck with my at the time bone stock terminator.

He was modded I wasnt.

My best that day was 13.1@110 his best was 13.0@108.

I believe he had a intake and that is it.

After the 1/8th I would start reeling him in.

I say if you can cut a 2.0 or better you should have no problem.

i am not sure of his mods, meaning AT WORST say full exhaust and headers? he is a car dealer and its just a vette they got in. he does however have a tuned and modded 2002 z06 that he just got and wants to re-race me in afterwards. so i will have to go buy some cheap ls6 heads or spray my car with that 500 dollars made. o haha i didnt even mention i have a thunder racing cam in it. 224 with a 112 lobe.

i think you will take him. if your nervous go get a tune make sure everything is in working order and running smooth. then after the tune take your money that you win off him and put in a bigger cam....or spray

You say you have a corvette throttle body The vette has a drive by wire TB that wouldnt be compatible with your f body. Plus, it wouldnt offer you any hp gains over the f body TB, even if it would function properly.

What year IS the C5? Remember, he weighs less, and can run the same number with less power than you.

My two buddies ran their cars this summer. 99 FRC m6, 336rwhp against a 99 Z28 m6, 367rwhp. The runs were from a roll, and the vette pulled out the win both times, simply due to weight and aerodynamics.

In this situation though, if he is indeed damn near stock, and if you can drive, you should pull out the win. Do you have any track times?

Alot depends too if he can drive, b/c with those A4's if you can drive then you can usually get pretty good times, just be careful and dont think its EASY money

If you're really going to run for 500 bucks, you might as well invest in some drag radials and pretty much ensure that you'll win (barring extremely shitty driving on your part). I ran a 04 vette with an air intake and catback, before my LS6 intake (not that it makes that much of a difference but just saying) with a passenger in my car and he had no one in his car, and from a 1st gear roll it was really close, with me inching away from him until he was at my back bumper. Your car should be a strong runner, but you can't let him win the race before you even cross the 60' mark....make sure you can get out of the hole.

See in most cases i've seen Vette's tend to pull harder up top, say 100+ but you barely crack 110-115 in the 1/4 with good mods. The F-body's tend to be more a 1/4 mile car. My Vette is NOTORIOUSLY hard to launch at the track but street launch it or roll start and it's game over usually. Mine's an M6 and somedays i wish i had a A4 stalled because they are MUCH easier to launch. But when carving up roads and road coarsing i love the M6 I'd say you will take him in the 1/4 unless you BUTCHER your driving. Just make sure you have a good idea what mods he has. You don't want to go in blind.~Cole~

So your full bolt on and gears v.s. his stock vette. Find out his mods for sure before you run him, but it looks like easy money to me.

having BFG DRs or MT et street DRs tires (or Nitto 555R) make a whole lot of difference. don't go there with street tires on the rear cause you're gonna pull 14s. my 2 cents.

Has anyone noticed what he said about the vette? 4.10's + irs means easy win for you, if hes on a street tire. He could try all day and I bet the best 60 he would get would be a 2.2. Make sure hes not on any kinda softer tire and you shouldnt have hardly any trouble. And if you want to be ablsolutley sure get a tire your self, I have seen personally a tire can add up to .5-1. off your time slips just because you can actually use the power.

Just checked you # in your sig, and if you really are making those # in your sig you better win, thats one of the highest dyno'ed ls1 ive seen w/out an ls6 manifold.

1. Find out his mods for sure(look at the car, no hidden nitrous kit??)
2. Get some good tires before you do anything else.
3. Go to the track and see what you can run. If your not running very low 13's or high 12's, save your money and dont race.

Thumbs down

He will win, hands down!

C5 throttle body on your car will not work so he wins.

And I call BS about you, this thread, and your dyno numbers.

Peace,
Craig.

If your car is indeed making that kind of power you should have no problem beating a stock c5. On the other hand if the vette does indeed have any mods, it would be a really close. If it were me racing the vette, I would definitely invest some money in some decent drag radials, for they will lower your times. You must get a under 2 sec 0-60. Don’t take the race lightly, this may be closer than u think. Find out his mods and go to the track alone and see what u run, good tires and decent driving should be in the mid to high 12’s, based on my experience.

I am going to have to go against the grain here. That A4 with 4.10's will be tough for you. If it were longer than a 1/4 you would win no question but my guess is your going to be 1 to 1.5 cars down right out of the hole and won't be able to make it up. Vettes lighter also... Good luck though
