Default LS1 2005 mustang!?

hello all chevy smallblock LS series fans
I have a somewhat difficult question for you.
I have a 2005 V6 mustang with a standard trany, And i want to pull the six and put in a V8. After doing a little shopping, i found out that a friend of mine has a 2004 corvette with an LS1. He wants to swap out for an LS7, so he is getting rid of the trany, engine, and computer. So i offered that if this ever happens, I would take the engine parts from him.

So, what do i want to do? I want to stick a Chevrolet Corvette LS1 engine in my 2005 mustang. I also found out the LS1 is small, closer in size to the 4.0L V6.

Do you have any idea of what i would need to do??
thanks.

I say go for it, make the other mustang owners do a double take and then mod it, great platform to work with, and leave 'em in the dust

It definitely wouldn't be a straight out swap like dropping in a ford v8. Lots of fabricating, think of the time to make/modify the engine mounts alone and then you have all the wiring to worry about - I doubt you can connect the fords IPC cluster and speedo to a chevy PCM and then forget about all the other functions controlled by a ford PCM.

And good luck reselling a v6 mustang with an ls1 swap when you're done with it - that'll factor out 99% of potential buyers...

If your buddy gives you a deal on the ls1 take it, resell it for some profit and then sell your v6 mustang and buy a gt. Or just buy an ls1 fbody like you shouldve done in the first place .

you need to mod the engine mounts not hard. wire the stock ecu to the gauges difficult but can be done. hammer out the tranny tunnel a little. and wire everything you will need a custom driveshaft that is about $400.

you need to mod the tranny mount also

Isn't it a drive by wire set up also? That'll take a tad of retrofitting.

I read 5.0 and they've featured an '05 with an Aston Martin V12, and one with an old school 428 Cobra Jet stuffed between the frame-rails. I say go for it if you got the goods!

Hell... You may be able to find someone to use your ride or R&D on a swap kit

well, my wiring problem will easily be solved, I get the computer and engine harness from my friend, and I am going to make my own gauge cluster.

Transmission will be a wee problem, Even if i get if from my friend, or a go to Modular Mustang Racing and get a T56,... mounting it to the back of the LS1 will be problematic... thank god my family's friends family owns a machine shop.

strange however, I know this guy he has a (i duno... looks to be about 1998) BMW M3. Mat black, and he has a corvette LS1 i it. He said it took him a weekend in his garage with a welder and some metal. I asked him to help.. he says maybe. I do have a welder, MIG and TIG, metal, metal bending stuff.

I am 100% positive i get my LS1 with all the stuff for free, which means i spend my money on custom parts. There is no way he would charge me for his engine... not a chance in hell. our families are just about a family together.

so, i duno. If you have any LS info... anything, how the transmission mounts, the width and length and location of the mounts, the fitting of longtube headers....... anything.

your going to need custom made headers or use the stock manifolds and make your exhaust fit the manifolds.

I think he meant actual dimensions.

As far as the tranny you wont be able to use the corvette tranny as it is not attached to the motor it is in the back. You'll be better off to get an fbody or gto tranny.

Good luck

I hope you realize that from a brand loyalty stand point... that is like putting a dick on a chick!!!!!!!!

Best advice... sell the stang and buy a ls1 bird or camaro.

I say do it if you get the drive train parts for free. A lot of money will probably go into the custom parts though.

Interesting concept, but why buy the v6 stang if you had plans for a v8.

Well, my parents bought me the car. I have no say. My parents where offering me a 1996 porsche 993, but no, they wouldn't put down $20,000.00 so they went to a ford dealership and bought me a 2005 V6 mustang for $19,000.00.

that pissed me off... internally. going from a classic 260rwhp porsche which was so godly i would give my right nut to have it right now. TO a 2005 V6 mustang with 150rwhp, no traction control, a burned to **** clutch, sounds like a ricemobile... the only good part where the aftermarket rims my parents bought. the real-nonfordknockoff Shelby Torq-thrust M rims 18*9 front 18*10 rears with Khumo tires.

AND as of today, I want to buy a used 2005 mustang GT. OR put a LS1 in my mustang, or a complete EFI 302.

so there, thats why i have the ford Vshit mustang.
