Default Heat Shield Under Hood?

I was wondering if I need the heat shield on the bottom of the hood. I don't like how it looks and was wondering if I need it. Also its an aftermarket WS6 hood that the previous owner put on. So I was wondering if I can just take it off.

I wouldn't, but Ive seen people take them off and the clear coat flake off thier hood, and then I know people that have taken it off and it effected nothing. But ask yourself this, why would cars come with them on the hood in the first place

Its actually a fire blanket. If your engine catches fire, it falls down and kinda smothers it.

or so I was told?

My 2001 didn't come with a heat shield. My new WS9 doesn't have one. I'd take it off.

Ugly ripped mine off and threw it in the shed with the other non usable parts.

wht01ws6ta- on some Camaros and some firebirds there is a black mat that is attached to the under neath of the hood. To prevent heat from the engine bay to the painted hood and screwing it up, also like others have said it can be used as a fire blanket.
I would post you a pic but mine is already gone.

^^Cool I've seen them on cars before, just never had one on my fbodys. And honestly, for some reason, my hood never gets very hot even without it. Might be the material the hood is made of, not sure.
