Mod's + Possible increase in value?
 

So... I was thinking, could there possibly be some mods that increase the value of our cars?

The rear blows, and everyone (well almost everyone) knows, so could a 9 in, add decent value to an F-bod?

Exhaust, our exhaust sounds like ass, just admit it. LT's make it sound better, so a decent set could make it more valuable (even slightly)? CME makes Camaro's look better plus it no longer made, so?

I know I'm going to get bashing for thinking this, but whatever. Opinions?

im in the car business and it does not increase the value like people think .....if your going to mod your car dont go into it thinking your going to get anything out of it ....you doing it for your personal satisfaction

no because if someone sees a car with a $3k rear they assume you beat the piss out of it and blew the stock one

Like mentioned above. Also people value cars that are easy to find parts for in case something needs to be replaced, having a Ford 9" in a GM will make things hard for replacement parts. Plus it will be hard to know what internal parts were used (axle splines come to mind). Cars actually loose value as they are mod'ed, due to it being a personal preferance to the mods. Say the exhaust for example, if you put a magnaflow on a car you may think it sounds great. But to others it may sound terrible and they will want to replace/fix it. It's not a good idea to mod a car to increase value, or should I say retain value better.

yes, aftermarket parts and/or to make it faster has nothing to do with the value of your car.

No I went to the stealership thinking about tradin my ss for a ss trailblazer and I had my recipts from comp cams and fast etc and they told me it actually decreased the value of the car

Yea, you really don't want to show them any of that stuff. The only things that really matter are year, condition, and mileage. So the newest model in the best condition with the lowest mileage will be worth the most, regardless if it has $10,000 in mods or its bone stock down to the tires.

JK. I know, it sucks. :( I'm modding mine and keeping it as a DD until I find a nice car. I know I can't sell it and get anything close to being as fun as my car for what I'll get out of it.

If I ever DO have to sell, I'll try and sell private party and get the most out of the mods by saying "go ahead and drive a stock one with the same miles, then you'll see how much better this one is".

I know the dealership doesn't care how many mods you put into it (unless you swapped in an LS7 that it didn't come with). They will give you one price for it. Then they will sell it for whatever they want - likely higher than others of a similar model due to the mods suddenly having value.

all of you guys saying mods add no value are stupid. So your telling me a 2002 SS with 40k miles and another 2002 ss with 40k miles. both in the same shape. one had rear,h/c,bolt ons. there going to bring the same money in the same market? NO, they will not. the modded car will bring more but might take a little longer to sell. Although to anwser your question OP, If your trying to put a couple bolt ons on your car to sell it I don't think its worth the money. But then again ive sold some of my F-bods in the past and im positive the sound and speed of the car sold it... All there is to it is you need a spacific buyer to buy a heavly modded car or your going to take a good size loss.

I would say your car would be worth more money with mods but don't expect to get full value for the costs of the mods.

A private sale will bring you some cash for mods, not a lot though. perfect is example is when i was selling my 5.0 LX. some guy blue booked it and said "i'll give ya 1500" i told him to come look at it and tell me what he wanted to offer then. The car had some great bolt ons, nice wheels, tint, exhaust etc. and he admitted it was worth a lot more than he could pay. But as far as a dealership is concerned, they'll say the mods mean it was abused and give you low trade in value. then sell the car for premium. just the way it is.

The only way you will get anything for your car with crap done to it, is private party.

There is a 2002 SOM WS6 down the road from me at a dealership. They are asking $22500...Bone stock...lol

yes, private party sells usually take a bit longer if you have mods, and might actually get close to what you want but nothing near the total of all mods..Now with dealerships they rape you..they do not care about mods and will only give you retail or less.

What about a Z28 with SS parts? (Hood, Spoiler, Wheels)

I had over 20K in my 93 T/A.....converted it to an M6, 9" rear.....then I sold it for $7,000 last March so I could buy a LS1. Mods don't add any value to a car, unless you can find a buyer who is looking for a modded car and even then you only get a fraction of what it cost you when you sell it.

Its best to sell the parts seperately to get the most money back unless like others said, you find a buyer who wants the modded car.

UNLESS - You put stripes on it. . . Then it's a collector car.:chug:
