I have 11 years and 150k miles of oil, crud, and dirt build up under my '97 SS. I will be doing an engine swap real soon and I wanted to know what would be the best method/chemical to get rid of all of the gunk caked under the car from years of leaks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a scraper, a bush, and like 3 cans of gunk foamy engine degreaser...dont drink it or get it all over you....its not good stuff for you, but damn it does the job

I'll pick some up. Someone else suggested using airplane stripper, but I have heard of that stuff removing paint.

use simple green. works great on ANYTHING

Yes, the stripper will give you a shiny, paint and grease free surface.Its also very caustic, I would use something like the Simple Green, a scrub brush and a pressure washer if one is available. $.02

simple green or some brake parts cleaner with a brush. when older cars come into the shop we just use our sprayers with brake cleaner

i just got done doin this, use some of the gunk foamy engine brite to get the big stuff then hit up ur local parts place and get some of that purple power stuff and use a scrubbrush, i was going to repaint but it came out so clean. anyways good luck
