Default Labor/Hours on Heads/Cam and Clutch Swaps

How many hours and how much do most shops charge for a heads and cam swap? A clutch swap?

Just looking for a baseline. Not some sort of exact quote.

you also need to take into acount the tune... i don't know about the rest since my buddies and i did them... but a tune will cost anywhere from $350-$450 for a decent tuner and a licensing fee is usually $100

Thanks, but I didn't ask about a tune. It will be tuned by Speed Inc., which lists their prices on their page.

Why don't you ask Speed Inc. what they will charge you to do it all?

Because that would be rude, IMO. I'm sure I cannot afford their prices.

I'm hoping for around $1,000 for the whole thing. Maybe $1,200.

It wouldn't hurt to ask them. I think it was last year that they ran a special during the winter for heads/cam install.

I think your looking at about a grand or so as long as you have the parts.

Personally, I would post up on the forum asking for help. Grab a case of beer, do some learning and enjoy it. Or see if anyone PM's you...

But... If your curious what a shop is doing... PM a sponsor on the forum, they love helping out and would probably cut you a deal to get your business. It's winter and its probably slow for them!

Bump anyways, to get you a solid answer.

Thanks, ABM99.

I wish I could do it myself as it wouldn't be a problem, and yes it would be fun ('cept when frustrated at points). But, I've had this cam for a year now. I just have to admit that with this job, I'm never going to take the time to do it. I'm just not.

Don't know about cams and clutch.

Just to do a head swap, only warrants about $400 labor. Any more than that is just too much. A friend of mine pulled my heads for me in my driveway so I could have them rebuilt for $400. Took him 2 hours to pull them and about 2 hours to put them back on a week later. Thats $100 per hour, plenty.

I also know a bunch of people in my area that will do them for about the same, $400.

Shops will probably charge much more because they have overhead.

Clutch replacement is about 4-5 hour job for a competent shop on a lift. Depends if you are replacing other things like slave cyl and master, pilot bearing/bushing, etc.
