Driver's side clunk..? Alright so here we go again. Car is a 2001 WS6. Just did upper lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends about a month ago. Got an alignment right after. Everything was good for about a month and just took the car out tonight. I now hear a big "clunk" in the middle of a left turn. It's coming from the drivers side for sure and does nothing on right turns or no noises coming from the passenger side. I tried looking under there but can't see shit. Anybody have any ideas on what it could be when I check it out tomorrow? I'm guessing it's gonna be the inner tie rod now. Just a guess for now .... |
is it a clunk or a pop? how does the sound sound? it can be as stupid as the plastic shroud poping or a loose bolt... |
It's like a loud "DUUUUNK". Now that I think about it ... it might be a loose bolt somewhere but I doubt it. Gonna get it up on some stands and look at it tomorrow. Maybe even throw the lowering springs on it. |
Also check your sway bar connections and bushings, coil over mounting bolts, calipers, ball joint. Slightly loose lugs can also cause a clunking sound from the stress caused to the wheel on turns (inside of rim against hat of rotor). This happened to me on my rear wheels when I turned. It clunked due to slightly loose lugs. It can only be a number of things. Good luck! |

Took a look a little while ago and found the P/S sway bar endlink loose as hell. The nut on top is tightened down but the sleeves and bushings in the middle have a lot of play from top to bottom. Would this cause the clunk on a left turn D/S...? |
I would think so. The endlink especially. Hope you found it... |
Well I ordered the parts already so I'm gonna swap them out. But the nut on the top seems to be tight a good amount of the way down the bolt threads. There is just a lot of play with the bushings and sleeve in the middle. I hope it works out but if that isn't it ... then it'll be found when I do the lowering springs too. |
