Angry Damn dash cracked today

my dash cracked today, anyone know if you add in a strut bar which ties into the firewall would add to this? I just added the edelbrock unit, and today (It was cold), hit a bump, and pop, a line from the speedo to the crash pad.

I can take dings, scraps, all kinds of crap, but a cracked dash makes me p....... It sounds silly, but I'm willing to sell it, crazy I know, but a pet peeve of mine.....

Thanks I feel better now....maybe

I think they all crack if there exposed to much sun over the years. Mine cracked in one little spot and i tried to take it out and fix, busted it into a bunch of pieces trying to take it apart to repair it. I just ordered a new one , kind of expensive but well worth it.

I think from GM they are like 170 something or around there.. They all eventually do it.. I had mine start on the passenger side, by the airbag.. started running up towards the windshield and I tried drilling it twice to stop it, with no success..

Well, maybe in my anger I did not describe it correctly. It is not the large flat component, but the actual dash which houses the gauges, radio, etc. If still $170, that is not bad, but pulling it all out sounds like a pain.....

mine also cracked in the same spot as you describe, its very annoying to look at it. it was my stupidity that i used some old oil based armor all that we had and after i stopped using it for a week i noticed a damm crack on the soft dash pad.

the gauge custer takes 10 min to pull out. Real easy. I think all you need it a 7mm or8mm socket and ratchet

There are a lot of people parting out cars these days so if you have some patience maybe you can find one with a good dash and get it relativly cheap.

He didn't bust the cluster, and it doesn't even take that long to pull..

Here is a picture (Poor) from my Blackberry, about 11 inches long. Guess I will start looking for a used dash in good shape.

Everyone have a good evening...
