Exclamation HELP!!!! Rear End Buckling...

A friend of mine has a '94 Z28 w/ 150K+ miles on it and recently the rear started buckling. He took it in and the mechanic replaced the pinion, pinion seal, axle seal, ball joints, replaced the differential gasket and it's still buckling.

When it first happened I was with him and I said it sounded like a u-joint clunking, but his mechanic looked at the u-joints and said they weren't the cause of the problem...

So my question for you guys is...

What else could cause this clunking/buckling? It sounds like it's coming from right where the driveshaft meets the differential. Tranny?
