Default Here's one for you mechanics (non-LSx question)

I just bought myself a new DD. I wanted to stop putting miles on my T/A and start prettying her up.

Anyways, it's a 2001 Echo AT with 125k. I know, I know. 1.5 liters of economical fury. It's not a bad drive, though. The car is in good shape with one exception: I noticed a rough idle when the transmission is in gear. The car and engine shakes quite a bit, but as soon as you accelerate it goes back to being smooth.

I checked the plugs and they had a little dry soot. I Sea Foamed the tank and the top end in hopes of smoothing things out, but it runs the same. The car smoked like hell for about 10 minutes, though.

The mounts look fine and I hear no vacuum leaks. What could it be?

sounds like mounts to me, sometimes it's hard to see cracks in a mount and are often the leading cause of poor transmission shifting. I wouldn't rule them out.

I'm not familiar with that motor, but it could also be a number of things throwing engine timing off. Timing chain/belt, distributor, plug wires, ect.
