Default Help me find a leak water leak in tail light!

Theres a pretty bad water leak in my tail light on my 02 SS. Its on the drivers side. I've put a bead of silicon over the top of the light, and it didnt work. Dont know where else it could be coming from, but I need to figure it out since my drivers side tail light has water in it and keeps blowing out the the lights.

Thanks!

Yea, you have to take it off and get every single leak no matter where it is located, even underneath. Make sure its completely dry inside before you seal it up though. You can put it in the oven for 20 minutes on the lowest setting to dry it out, like maybe 130*. Use a hot glue gun, that stuff cools off and is much harder than silicone.

There's a write up somewhere that shows how to take the light apart to repaint the inside......I think they use 150* for 20 minutes to soften the factory seal. Check into it first if you want to do the oven thing......

It's not water, your loosing blinker fluid.. Haha no seriously though, I had the same problem and had to replace it with a junkyard one, that may be easier than loosing your mind over it.. If it had alot of water for a long time the chrome starts coming off and light output drops alottt..

My back up lens seperated from the housing. I had to blow air into the housing to find it. Just glued it maybe it will hold.

I had the same problem but I copied another member by drilling a small hole in the bottom of each tail light. Haven't had a wet bulb since

The problem isn't letting moisture in it's getting it out. They already have a vent hole, it's got a piece of cloth covering it, but it's up top, not on the bottom

I had the exact same problem with mine. So i took them out, turned them over and drilled a small hole on the bottom side of the light closest to the outside of the car on each side. You can't see the holes when the lights are installed and they do not hold water anymore. Simple fix and it has worked great for a while now. I basically did the hole right between the "T" and "V" where you have the RTV in the picture there. This is done on the backside of the light right behind the lip where the housing and the lens come together. Hope that helps, I tried to explain the location as best I could. Sorry if you don't understand.

Thanks for the help guys!

I think I'm going to pop the tail light off and play with it a little while the car is away for the winter.

I'm going to take a second look at the light, but if that doesnt work, I guess I'll just resort to drilling a hole.
