Don't know what to do falling apart 98 Z28 195K on the clock and when I run over a bump it sounds like its going to fall apart. I have changed out the shocks and mounts. Its not as stiff, but still rattles like the fenders are going to be laying in the street. Should I replace the bushing, contoll arms, just scrap the car keep the engine. Any good advice is wanted. This is a daily drive, and I drive it like a race car on the to interstates I take to work. thanks, |
If it rattles that bad, the problem shouldn't be that hard to find. First I would pound around the car with my fist to see if it's body related. If you can't find it, check all the suspension parts. |
I had the same problem with a mustang that I used to own. Every time I ran over a bump, I could hear a loud rattle noise coming from the front. Turns out it was my brake caliper. Not too sure what caused it, but it was just making a bunch of noise like it was going to fall apart. Got a new one, and problem was solved. |
With 195k on the car, you're probably going to want to change out near every bushing on that car. If I were you, I would get the car in the air safely, get under the car and start poking around. Get a listing of all suspension bushings, etc. Then look at the torque arm mount, the tranny mount and your engine mounts. On the mounts, you're looking for the rubber being torn or split. I'm suggesting checking those out because at that age, it sure can't hurt to check them out. But yes, you've got a huge pile of long worn out bushings. Make sure the parts they are conencted to look good as well, not twisted, damaged, etc. |
i second the talk of bushings. a lot of miles on the car. My motor mounts made a lot of noise. Trans mount too. |
tranny mount and motor mounts are 1st to crap out......ask me how i know |
