car won't start I've got a 2000 camaro ss, and i went to turn it on this morning and it started but sounded weird starting up. after about 20 seconds i had to turn it off cause i forgot something in the house and when i came back out and tried to start it again, nothing. i put in the clutch and turn the key but all that happens is a humming(fuel pump?) and then clicking that sounds like it's coming from the engine bay. any ideas? thanks guys |
Put a volt meter on the battery. Make sure you have around 12 volts or more. Make sure your battery cables are tight. Do all of your lights work? |
i don't have a volt meter but the battery cables are tight and all the lights work. i turn the key and it clicks but that's it then when i let go of the key all the gauges jump to the right then fall back to off position |
Do any of the lights go dim when you hit the starter? Smell anything burning? Battery cables feel warm? |
well my dad says it's probably the battery so we were taking it out to get it tested but the positive(red) side bolt attaching to the battery was really corroded and now it's stripped. how do i get it off now? is there any way to cut the old positive end off and get a new one? |
If you cut off the old terminal it will probably be too short. See if you can get a replacement terminal bolt when you test your battery. |
Get a spray can of corrosion cleaner, it might eat it all up and you could be ok. Corrosion will cause everything to go dead, even if the battery is perfectly fine. . |
thanks for all the replies guys we charged it and got it to start then just drove it to a place to have it fixed haha all good now |
