Default loses power/stumbles between 2500-3000 rpm

been having this problem lately, when accelerating, no matter what gear i'm in, it falls flat on it's face between 2500-3000 rpm. it still accelerates, just loses it's "pep", if you will, and it does this only intermittently. i doubt the transmission would cause such a problem (6 speed), and the engine itself has no mods, save for shorty headers and an air lid. so i'm wondering if it may be a fuel or spark problem. any suggestions??

I'd swap plugs, wires, o2s, and clean the MAF. I lean towards the o2s being the problem as they play a huge roll in part throttle fueling. Does the problem go away with full throttle?

My cars having this same problem, 2000 Z 6 speed. If I get on it in 2nd around 20 mph once it hits that area it bogs then picks back up.

Ill prolly check my plugs and wires later today along with the o2 sensors. If there good then I'm back at square one ill let you know what happens

Sounds like a classic dirty MAF sensor. What kind of air filter are you running?

I'd expect that a fuel filter problem would still cause issues in to high RPM and would not go away after 3K PRM, right?

Interested in this. My 00 M6 is doing the same thing. It has a K&N air filter so maybe that dirtied up the MAF

People will swear that the oiled filters aren't a problem here... but I have yet to hear of anyone with a paper filter having the MAF issue. Hmmmm....

Life has been great for me since I went to paper filters.

yes, it does. only between 2500-3000 rpm on average. also worth noting seeing as how you brought up o2's, under hard acceleration it sometimes throws the CEL, the codes (which i forget) are usually left bank o2 related, but i always figured that would be caused by my headers so i never really thought any more about it.

i'm running a k&n. that makes sense to me. but just for good measure, when i do my intake swap, i'll change plugs and o2's as well. what would anyone recommend for o2's? I'm pretty sure bosch makes the gm ones, but i've never had good luck with bosch sensors on my other cars. also, i was thinking of switching to e3 plugs, but i might just stick with the universally accepted NGK's.

Well when my fuel filter was old and clogged my car would chug a little then seem to grab and then be OK. When it was chugging it was building up more fuel . when it chugged I would let my foot off the gas and the gas flow would come back, I also threw a light but I don't remember what code it was. Someone suggested I change the filter ...and there it was. maybe not his problem but then again?????

it's worth it to change that out too. fuel filters are cheap, after all. i'm probably due for a new one soon anyhow.

I had the same issue & replaced :fuel filter, O2 sensors, cleaned the MAF, new plugs, cleaned the TB & sensors & it was still happening. Heck it even got to where it wouldnt run with the MAF plugged in. Finally tossed a fuel pressure gauge on the rail & discovered I only has 15psi when it should have been closer to 60psi at idle. Tossed in a Racetronix direct fit pump without the hot wire kit & fixed it right up.

No need to change the O2's unless they are a problem. (Unless they are old and you are doing proactive maintenance.)

$5 for MAF cleaner and you should be back to 100%.

I changed plugs/wires, replaced fuel filter, cleaned MAF... All that's left is O2 sensors which I'm gonna wait on because I have a header install coming up. That's probably/hopefully my issue.

yeah, i'm not sure how old the o2's are. i figured i'd swap them out for good measure....have an emissions test coming up in the fall, so it couldn't hurt to have new ones in. i plan on cleaning the maf first seeing as how it's the simplest thing to do.

You can always grab the 13111's now and just zip-tie the slack for the time being.... Just a thought.
