Barely runs after disconnecting battery
My trans am has had this issue the entire time I have owned it where if the battery goes dead or gets disconnected for a decent amount of time, it will barely idle the first time you start it up again. If you hold the rpms steady above 1000-1500ish or so for a few seconds and then let it idle down it will run fine and then not have another issue. I have always wondered what causes this but haven't found a need to really pursue it because of how easy the problem is to get passed. Has anyone else had this issue before?

Yeah, that happened to me when I replaced the washer reservoir on my Tahoe. The battery had to come out to do it, and upon re-installation, it did as you described. I just kinda nursed it at high idle until it figured out what it had to do. I don't really call it a problem. Just short term amnesia.

Idle relearn seems to be more of an issue on some cars that others, but this is not uncommon with these cars. One of my four was noticeably worse than the others. But not a big deal as it has always been fine after an idle relearn.

The fact that your car runs at all when the battery is disconnected, is a quite impressive to begin with. Factory zombie?

Disconnecting the battery also clears the LTFT's (long term fuel trims).
It may run a slight bit different until it's driven enough to rebuild the LTFT file.
Cars don't need a battery to run... just to crank.
