1999 CAMARO SS back fires

just wondering if its normal for my 1999 camaro ss to backfire when its cold

ULTIMATEORANGESS 10-27-2011 08:03 PM

no, it probably needs a tuneup.

BBQPETE 10-27-2011 08:05 PM

ULTIMATEORANGESS 10-27-2011 08:11 PM

what kind of exhaust set up do you have? Also do you still have your EGR/AIR hooked up?

When i bought my camaro (stock) it did not back fire at all
After installing longtube headers and True Duals, it backed fired some.
Now that i removed EGR/AIR (after LS6 intake swap), no back firing like before. only on occasion.

Thats my experiance with "backfiring" atleast.

at what mileage do they recommend tune up spark plug change?

If you just purchAsed the car I would go ahead and change out plugs, oil, trany, and re end. Maybe radiator flush if need to be. You never know when the last time they been changed. I wOuld put synthetic oil, I use castrol synthetic than change it out every 3000miles at the most.

isnt synthetic good for at least 5k?

i think ive heard its from 6k-8k

Yeah it is. Personally I dont like running my motor past 3k without an oil change because of the cam work and mods, my ls1 is a thirsty son-of-abit*h...it keeps it running healthy

What brand spark plug is recommened?

MrBluGruv 10-28-2011 09:12 AM

Almost like clockwork my '02 SS backfires a lot between my first gear shift of the day, then almost never again unless I ride down a particular gear from high rpm for a while then disengage the clutch. I only hear it (maybe even only get it at all) when the e-cutout is open though...
