Question Trans Am Headlight motor? Makes noise, Keeps turning?

When i turn my headlights off the drivers side headlight motor keeps turning even after the headlight is down and makes crappy sounding noise. Also when i hit my unlock or lock on my keyless entry remote the headlights flip up and down and again the drivers side makes that sound. I know another buddy thas having the same problem. With my work schedule its almost impossible to get it into the shop. Does anybody know what the cause of this problem is and how i can resolve it??

Thanks ahead of time everbody.

P.s. Its a 98'

the headlight gear is worn out, just search for a brass headlight gear on the internet.

Yep, the plastic gear is trash in the headlight assembly. There is someone around here that sells the brass gear replacements.

I had the same issue and fixed it by replacing the plastic gear with the brass gear. However, a few months later, it started again on the headlight I originally fixed. I'll probably just buy a new motor now.

The reason why it keeps doing that is becuase the housing on the motor is probably loose. That is the number one reason for all gear failure. Mine did the same thing twice and when i took it a part the third time I noticed how loose it was. It mentioned in that whole write up. Read the whole thing next time.

Really you don't need to replace the gear. The headlight motor only uses half of the gear so you can remove the arm that operates the headlight and manually rotate the gear 180 degrees and it'll work as good as new. However, if this fix has been done before or you perform this fix and the other side strips out as well then you will need to replace the gear. Preferably with a brass one.

Thanks alot guys, i just did the temp fix and everything works fine. At first the headlights were still going up and down when i would hit the alarm button but that was solved by simply holding the unlock button on the remote for 5 seconds...Thanks again for the good info

That was a new article that was posted. If that was there when i originally swapped out the gears, I would have read it. thanks for the heads up though.

I had the same issue with it. I replaced the gear without hammering down the tabs. ALWAYS tighten the tabs.
