Default wont start 1st crank?

1st off-- this is a 2001 chevy 2500hd im talking about- not my ta. Truck has the 6.0 motor, and it started not cranking on the 1st try. You either have to crank it 3-4 times , or just turn the key on for a sec then back off a few times before you try and crank it (which is what i do). I thought it must be a week fuel pump, so i bought one and had it installed. I picked the truck up and drove it home, and after sitting a couple days i tried to start it and it did the same thing. It still didnt crank on the 1st try even with a new pump. Im hoping i didnt somehow get a bad fuel pump. Any ideas on things to look into as to what the problem may be??
