black canister in front of sway bar mount?

black canister in front of sway bar mount? Anyone have know what the black canister in front of the passenger sway bar mount is? It has a small thin tube coming out of it to nothing and a metal prong above that. I have no idea what it is and never saw it before, but im sure it serves some purpose. 2001 camaro ss

I just removed it today. its not very heavy. i'd say 1lb. I was told it is a vacuum reservior for the air conditioning to function properly. I'm not 100% sure if thats all it does. I'm worried my heater controls may need that to switch settings. I'd really like to know also.
