piston slap rough idle 1300-2100rpm
 

i have noticed a noise thats been there for a awhile now after doing some research i came to the conclusion it was piston slap i see its pretty common but in my case in park between 1300-2100 rpm it feels pretty rough would this be related. almost like a miss but i have no engine codes or any misfires when i had it on the scanner very noticable holding the steering wheel, otherwise driving the car is great doesnt miss a beat very strong anyone have any ideas any help would b greatly appreciated

Clean your MAF. (Easy to do so why not?) How many miles are on your car?
How old is your plugs, wires, o2's, fuel filter (it happens), Does it vibrate just idling or do you have to hit 1300-2100 rpm's specifically?
while your WOT do you hear anything unusual?

dont forget that piston slap should quite down after the engine is warm, right? except in severe cases?

yes i removed and clean the MAF about 3 weeks ago, as for plugs, wires, fuel filter i replaced about a month ago. i pulled the plugs to check how the were burning and all seemed well. the 02's i never touched since i had the car. it has 91,000k miles and about a month ago i got a dtc code catalyst efficenct low bank 1 but i cleared it and it never came back. yes it does quiet down once it warms up. at idle sometimes i feel a slight miss but in park when i hold rpms between 1300-2100 range is when i feel it shaking the wheel. WOT it sounds fine high rpm theres a slight ticking sound i can hear. i will post a video shortly!

So i did some research and found on another forum :secret2: that they were experiencing o2 sensor problems such as they werent connected or just damaged but that is the reason your code appeared. I think your cat might be getting clogged as well since it is 91k mileage. Cats usually only last 80-130k from my experience.

In my opinion my buddy had a WRX that sounded like this. He took it back to the dealership he bought it from and they had to replace his motor. [:ripped:]

Piston slap usually goes away once it's warmed up. In your case it continues you say. That sounds like valves or rod knock.

on some ls1 motors the piston slap never goes away completely. You will still hear it faintly at idle even when its warm. The main thing is that the sound goes away as rpms rise...pretty normal imo, just drive the shit out of it and enjoy!

Thanks for all the input I really hope its not a rod knock that's the last thing I wanna hear, when I put my hand on the injector rail on the passenger side u can feel it as well while the driver side is smooth. I'll give it a try and replace the 02's and inspect that cats mayb just hollow them out but that also could make it worse right? I heard of a few people doing that.

I hollowed the cats out on my previous camaro ( 94' 3.4L ) because the cat was clogged. the EGR was fried. I had to actually have my o2 sensors tuned out. So basically if you hollow out your cats don't bother buying new o2 sensors you can just have them tuned out. Be prepared to have a loud car.

It might be cheaper just to buy high-flow cats or just new cats if your in an inspection county/state

Ok well i think im gonna stick with some new cats, as you seen in the video it is quite louder when its cold it does quiet down once its warmed up but its still noticable at times. the other day i poked up and down on the engine with a stethoscope and didnt find any direct area the noise would be coming from. which tends to lead me towards a valve/head related issue, so i THINK as far as a rod knock im safe
