Question Power steering loud and weak at idle

Good Evening,

I had my power steering pump replaced a year ago. Now that I have put my 275/40 R17 tires back on the pump is louder and barely helping when I am driving in a parking lot. Specifically when I try to cut it to get into a parking spot.

While I'm driving on the road it seems fine, but it is only when I want to park that it seems to be an issue. Is there anything besides replacing the pump to check?

I have replaced the belts and the belt tensioner recently so I don't believe those are the issue. When I had my winter tires on (225/40R17) it wasn't a problem all winter. I did notice it before I changed to winter tires, and it is back.

It is only a problem with my sticky wide 275/40R17 tires. Is it a weak pump? Does it have anything to do with the idle speed?

same here. i have the stock wheels and the stock tires, i used to drive with 17" wheels. when i installed the original wheels i started to hear that noise. it only happens on low RPM when the engine is warm.

Sounds like the pump is fried.
Slow speed turning is obviously harder with no motion to assist you. I could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Smile Follow Up

I did a few things that seem to have helped. I'm not sure exactly what helped the most.

1. Used my predator to up the idle speed by 100 RPMs

2. I replaced the tie rod ends and wheel hubs on both sides.

3. Added extra power steering fluid.

It is still loud but I haven't had to use extreme effort to turn the wheels since. Hopefully this helps.
