My AC makes a rattling noise when turned on.... What is it ?
I just started using the AC in the car again since its been kinda hot in my area.
When I turn it on it makes a loud rattling noise. If its off I never hear this noise. I kinda looked under the car but nothing seemed loose.
What could it be ?
Can it be the compressor pulley ? or maybe a bearing on the compressor ?
Thanks

i have the opposite problem, if i have everything off i hear this loud rattle, really high pitch metallic sounding, but if i turn on ac,heat, or anything it goes away...but actually the noise has changed since i charged my A/C so...im probably more confused than you.

Compressor clutch may need to be replaced. Mine did this somewhere around 80-90k miles. It didn't need a whole new compressor though, just the clutch assembly.

Got it directly from the GM parts counter. List price is something like $100-110 I think. It's cheaper from GM Parts Direct. Part number was 6581515.
