Heater won't work

Hey guys, pretty sure my heater core went out because my heater won't work anymore when the car is fully heated up and the thermostat is new so it's not stuck open. Car is a 2000 camaro Z28. I heard you have to remove the dash to pull the heater core...is that right? How much will it cost ball park to have a shop do it?

Can you hear the blower motor turn on? When was the last time the system was flushed? How is your coolant level? Smell or see antifreeze anywhere? What is the idle temp sitting at?

If you are sure it is the heater core then it will take you a bit to do it. In 95 or 96 airbags come into play, and that delays the process even more.

I flushed the coolant about 6 months ago and it's really dirty again, I don't hear the blower motor kicking on, don't see/smell anti freeze, and temp gauge is right in the middle.

I'd check to make sure it is not your blower motor first. Check the fuse panel. Check to see if it is getting voltage. From there i would check the motor itself or the switch itself. Even if you had a bad core you should still hear the motor coming on and going through the different levels.

Bad coolant smells like rubber. If you just did a flush 6 months ago and it is dirty again i have to suspect a head gasket.
