car won't start Have a 98 t/a w an lq9. Car sat 6 months, started up and ran fine for about ten mins and shut off, then wouldn't start up. Tried to start w ether so I assumed it was the fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump and noticed the regulator had fell off in the tank. So then assumed that was the problem..still wouldn't start up.. put a pressure gauge on it read just under 60 psi. Checked for fire by arcing on header and had spark.. checked plugs and they were all soaked in fuel and black... when I tried the pressure again it got lower and lower(could that be from a weak battery? ) pump is new.. seems like it all snowballed.. any advice is appreciated |
Gas may have gone bad. Gas may have water in it from sitting. Sounds like you have pressure and spark. So put some new plugs in. How much gas is in the tank? Try to add new gas if possible to dilute any bad gas. |
Have you checked compression on all the cylinders? Test out the easy things before you start throwing parts at it |
Added 7 gallons of gas, would the regulator being off flood the plugs and maybe drained battery slowing my pump? |
first of all, charge the battery up full and make sure its good when diagnosing something like this. A bad regulator can cause all sorts of goofy problems. How much is a new one? Wouldnt hurt to put one on. Does yours have a vacuum line on it? If so, pull it off and see if there is fuel in the vac line - if there is you know its bad. You could change the plugs since theyre obviously fouled now. |
Changing the plugs tomorrow, trying tr5's and see what happens |
Changed the plugs and scared me it fired up so fast.. Cheap ebay pump didnt last 24 hrs.. Already down ro 40 psi |
EBay parts are often Chinese copies....spend the extra money from a local parts store and get a warranty |
