Starter issue

Just put my new motor in u can hear the relay click but nothing from the starter do I have to have the alternator connected for the car to fire?

No, but your battery could be low on cranking power. The volts could measure fine and the battery still not have enough power to crank the engine.

Have another car to jump it from? I would do that and of course install the alternator, turn the key, check voltage if you still have a problem.
