Default Oil filters - Who likes what?

Summit Racing is local to me and has the Fram 7500 mile oil filters on sale for $1 each. So I picked up 20 of them. Not my favorite but I figured I'd see what everyone likes and why?

Fram is basically the only one I refuse to use. I prefer to use mobile1, acdelco, or wix.

I usually dont jump on the bandwagon and debate which oil filter is best......but Fram is the only one that simply blows.

purolator and ac delco...........you cannot get a better filter. Don't waste time researching this subject, not worth it. All the super duper synthetic companies that jumped into the oil filter game did it simply because they know they're gonna suck thousands into it.......they aren't any better then purolator and ac delco.

Everyone is going to tell you that their baby is the cutest. For quantifyable information go to places like these:

K&N for me as it has consistently keep the oil pressure up in the higher RPMs in all my LS1 cars.

Fram oil filters totally suck. I used to use them a while back. When I would start up my car when it was cold the motor would make a loud ticking sound until the motor warmed up. My friend said why does your car do that? I used a different oil filter brand one time (purolator) and it didn't do that. I read that site somebody posted and they rated fram as the worst. There is some deal with the check valve in those things. This all happened a few years ago.
Plain and simple, don't use fram they are crap. Read that site about oil filters that wissix99 posted.

I'm not going to say which is best, but I'll tell you what I use and like. I run the WIX 51522. It's the truck filter and is just a tad longer. It has been working great! Before anyone asks, no it is nowhere near long enough to scrape. It doesn't even go past the exhaust.

I run a oil filter bypass mod. It just recirculates the oil back in the car and I don't have to worry about expensive or unnecessary oil filters.

I've been driving this way for 20,000 miles with no problems at all.

Same here...anything but Fram. Don't remember what they call them - the better ones - xtraguard? They are extra restrictive. Sure they filter down to a smaller size at the cost of flow, so the oil just bypasses the filter more so than their standard ones. I personally use the truck filters either in purolator or super tech - when I could get them.

Pardon my ignorance, but the oil isn't filtered at all? How does that work?

Anything but Fram for functionality.

I also refuse to buy the stupid expensive gimmicky filters like K&N. The nut is only useful if you put the filter on too damn tight in the first place, you should be able to take it off by hand with absolutely no tools every time. I can maybe see the useful aspect if you have longtubes very near to the filter, but otherwise it's just throwing money in the garbage IMO.

I personally use WIX or Ac Delco. Great filters with a 'middle of the line' price.

IIRC.... The oil filter gets bypassed at higher RPMs anyway because it is moving so fast.

How do you bypass it 24/7? Pros? Cons?

I usually use ac delco. A filters a filter. Ever cut a few open, they all have the same cardboard like filter material, some have more or less, bigger or smaller holes. If anyones ever cut a filter open and seen what it collects, i wouldnt want that stuff running through the bearings of my lightly street driven vehicle.

This is obviously BS. I just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention. I think we've had every major brand recommended so far...

These types of questions usually devolve in to garble. People "like" what they pay money for. It doesn't matter if it was a good choice or not.

As well, this stuff changes. Filters are made by one manufacturer and marketed under another, manufacturers change, manufacturing locations change, materials change, etc. A good filter 5 years ago may be constructed differently today and vice versa.

I my case, I don't really care that much about my oil filter right now. My wife won't approve funds for engine mods until its time for a rebuild. So, I want my engine to slowly wear out as quickly as possible. (Isn't that a mind bender?) I just need to avoid a catastrophic failure.

One thing I do is add goat's urine to my oil during changes. It adds life and creates beneficial nano-bubbles that aid lubrication and seal leaky gaskets.
