'99 Z28 - Oil Pump Replacement?
'99 Z28 M6 and I've got a oil pan gasket leak. I think that I've figured out how to drop the k-member to get access. Since I've got to drop the pan, I also want to change the pump out. I've changed oil pumps on older Chevy small block motors, but this will be a first on the LS1. Is there anything that different about changing a LS1 oil pump? Drop the pan, unbolt the pump and replace? Thanks!!

The pumps on LS engines sit on the front of the crank. It's not bad at all to change, especially since you will have the oil pan off anyway. Just remove the water pump, crank pulley and timing cover and the pump is right there on the front! A lot of people upgrade to ported pumps, which we sell. We also carry gaskets and all that jazz. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help!

Ported ls6 pump is the way to go.better flow.how has your oil pressure been?
Motor clean no sludge? If so id also replace pick up tube.the screen might be very dirty clogged.good thing to change out while your at it .other than that make sure you install the o ring.

Oil pressure is fine, no sludge. I'm not having any problems with the car. I thought that since I need to replace the oil pan gasket, it's a good time to replace the pump also.

i just read that...definitely replace it. i would go with the TSP Ported LS6 pump. Not only do you get better flow with the ported pump, the LS6 is a better design and the TSP one comes with a shimmed preassure spring to bring oil pressure up 10-20psi throughout the RPM range.
The reason i went with this one is the PSI jump. mine idles cold at 70-75psi and hot 50-60psi idle. i love this pump:

it has gone up in price since i got it 4 years ago, but still a great pump.

We offer re-manufactured ported LS6 pumps on our site for $80 with free shipping. They are low mileage pump cores. The porting offers a higher flow rate and they are also shimmed to offer slightly higher pressure. http://hubbardracinginc.com/product-...ine/oil-pumps/

Thanks Ethan .... I'll visit the site. So I'll need the LS6 ported pump, new oil pan and timing cover gaskets, plus some water pump gaskets. Sound right? I've got about 40K miles on the water pump.
