Fbody exhaust 99 firebird 3.8l I had to drill holes in front of the cat because it had failed. I am getting it fixed tomorrow. I was just wondering, would it hurt t just put a pipe where the cat is? I know you arnt "supposed" to but i live in southern indiana and we dont have smog/emission control testing done here. My main concern is that some motors require so much "push back" from the exhaust to run properly and i dont know if the 3.8 would run worse or differently if i didnt have the cat. Besides cat's reduce power and mpg but improve emission control. any thoughts/ opinions?
No 4 stroke engines need backpressure. You probably won't notice a difference without a cat besides the sound depending on your exhaust. You will get a check engine light if you remove the cat but that can be turned off by various ways (o2 sensor eliminators, tuned out of computer, spark plug non fouler, etc.)

I just the cat removed and it already had custom exhaust with no muffler so its now basically a straight pipe. Sounds great actually. I only have Upstream o2's Will that still cause ses to come on after removing the cat? Mine was already on from where the cat went bad and caused my upstream O2's to pick up the unfiltered exhaust.
