Default Exhaust leak? Help!

Ok so i just got my first lt1 camaro. and i got it under the assumption that it had a pretty rough exhaust leak. ive got all the systems the lack of compression the smell of fumes and of course the crappy sound. Ive been checking it out for a few days and i think ive narrowed it down to 3 things that could be wrong. The donut rings or gasket going from the manifolds to the y pipe might be shot, the cat could or is clogged up. But im pretty sure its the egr because i can put my hand back by there and feel air coming out of it. I can post pics of the manifolds if you wanna see it but i just want someones opinion to help me narrow this down so i can get it fixed and finally on the road and driving good.

FYI - There is a EGR blockoff kit that consists of three plates (Two for the Intake, one for the pass side exhaust manifold) - so, if your EGR system is indeed leaking, then that is one method to resolving your problem.
